Terra Magma (formerly Indiana River) is a dark water ride and tree trunk attraction in the Belgian amusement park Bobbejaanland.
The tree trunk attraction, which opened in 1991 , was completely covered, making it officially a dark water ride. During the ride, visitors sailed in a tree trunk, which could accommodate up to four people, past and through various scenes that all revolved around the jungle. During the 420 meter long ride there were three descents, the highest of which was ten meters.
For safety reasons, persons shorter than one meter are not allowed to enter the attraction. If smaller than 1.40 meters, an adult must accompany them.
The attraction received a new theme during the winter closure. The Indiana River closed November 6, 2022, Terra Magma opened May 14, 2023
One enters the Terra Magma queue by walking under the attraction's logo. Scandinavian fishermen's houses can be found against the facade of the building . The rest of the building is hidden by a huge canvas with an image of a volcano on it.
Once inside the building, one enters a dark corridor with murals, the so-called cave corridor. In this part of the queue there are also a number of warning signs stating that exploring the Terra Magma is unsafe and it is better to return to the aforementioned village. After this corridor one ends up at the boarding station of the attraction, where a huge sinkhole can be seen. Through this sinkhole one can see the moonlight shining and look into the volcano. Once seated in the tree trunk, people are first told a short story with warnings about the dangers of exploring the volcano. This scene also shows a number of murals that are lit up one by one, representing different scenes from the attraction.
After this story, the boat comes loose from the turntable and sails straight towards a water curtain, which goes out just in time. The log boat goes up the first lift and ends up in paradise. During this scene, exotic plants, butterflies and two projected waterfalls are seen. This is followed by the first drop. After this first drop the atmosphere changes. The boat now sails past a settlement on the edge of the volcano. There is no trace of life left. The boat makes a turn and enters the next scene: the hurricane. People here come into contact with a huge tornado, which has already caused a lot of damage. A wind effect gives the impression that you are really sailing past a tornado.
After this, the boat continues to the next scene, which is completely based on projection. This projection screen shows a ship that has been caught in a huge tsunami . This ship appears to be sailing in synchronization with the log boat, until it disappears from view. Then the log boat sails through the hull of the ship, where it can be seen that it has been shipwrecked. You sail between the masts to the second lift.
It has now become night on the second lift. At the top of the elevator one can see the moon. There are also warning signs here. This time they warn about a sea monster that might be somewhere nearby. After the second drop the boat ends up in a swamp. A ship's bell can still be heard in the distance. The boat passes under the body of the sea monster, which seems to be getting closer. After a few seconds, the sea monster appears on a projection screen, roaring. People leave the scene again via a water curtain that goes out just in time.
We now arrive at the third and last lift. Now the log boat is in the volcano. Throughout the lift one sees rocks and murals of a smoldering volcano. Once the boat reaches the top of the lift, the volcano erupts. Huge chunks of magma and a lot of smoke appear. This is followed by the third drop where an onride photo is also taken. After this last drop you pass another house. After this you return to the turntable where you can get off.
In the exit there are some advertisements and newspaper articles that are reminiscent of a fishing village. Via a staircase down (which is designed like a shipwreck) you reach the outside again. Here there is a small souvenir shop and a photo shop
