Woman Runs Man Over After Altercation On Freeway

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 2-25-24 6:36 am
LOCATION: SB I-5 JSO of 28th St
AREA/CITY: San Diego
DETAILS:
911 Dispatchers received a call about a traffic accident.
Two Good Samaritans found the male victim down in the #4 lane of the southbound I-5, and luggage and belongings spread down the traffic lanes.
The victim told them that his female friend had thrown him and his suitcase out of the vehicle that he was in and then ran him over and left the scene.
The male was transported with major injuries to UCSD Hospital and was in surgery for upper body trauma.
SDPD officers found the female in a Volvo SUV on the transition ramp from the I-5 south to the CA-15 north.
The Volvo was on the right shoulder.
Apparently, the male victim had the key flob on him, and when she drove away, the vehicle came to a stop approx 1/4 mile away due to the key flob not being near the SUV.
The female rambled on for a while. as the SDPD officers questioned her, but eventually, the female told both SDPD and the CHP officer that the male and her had been fighting with each other at a hotel in downtown San Diego, and the fight continued when they left.
She claims that the male was driving and then started to strangle her while driving.
He pulled over, got out of the vehicle, and then grabbed his suitcase.
It’s not clear if she admitted to running the male over, but there is damage to the hood and windshield, and there appears to be a tire tread mark on his back.
After a long period of questioning, the CHP detained her for further questioning and investigation.

I was hit by a car at 45 mph while on my motorcycle 25 years ago in an accident. 78 yr old man said he didn't see me. Many broken bones. All my rib cage broken and collapsed. Lucky to have survived. Almost died. Never lost consciousness. That twitching is real. Involuntary. You can't control it. I think at least for me is the only way your body and brain is trying to mitigate the flood of pain.

A few Good Samaritans stopped, and a man took off his own jacket, balled it up, put it under my uncle's head, and held him until the paramedics got there, all the while telling him he wasn't alone and that everything's going to be okay. @rustyblade5845, at first seeing him "crumpled" like an "injured insect" I was surprised to suddenly see him flat on his back and then they just roll him on his side to put that lift tarp under him and he seems to be coughing on blood as they're lifting him and putting him on the stretcher etc. I'm not a medic & never handled someone like that but it seems awfully "rough" when thinking about the potential for spinal/cervical injuries and the potential for internal bleeding....

What I found strange was that the medics just bundled the man up (who had been both hit hard by a large SUV and then run over by it) into a blanket and then casually plonked him down roughly onto a stretcher, just as they would do with a body-bag. Would have expected him to have first been very carefully transferred to a spinal board and then secured to it before being moved, as he was likely to be suffering from spinal injuries too after being run-over by a 2 tonne SUV across his upper body. Could see by his coughing & breathing distress that he probably suffered a punctured lung from broken ribs at the very least, as well as numerous other internal injuries in all likelihood.

They are the professionals so who knows. When they transfered me into an ambulance after my horrible accident where I broke both femurs and my pelvis, they basically did the same thing. At that point in time I didn't know if I had a spinal issue because I couldn't move or feel my legs but it turned out my spine was fine. But yea they just bundled me up like that and carried me out of the ditch.

Had to redo the test the next day because I moved so much that the scans were useless. I could only imagine what a broken spine would feel like on a straight board. Probably would cause injury in itself. Like I said they are the professionals.

Another person posted - saying they were an EMT - that if it’s determined that there’s no spinal injury, they don’t automatically use a back support now. I presume that means if the person can move their legs or has feeling in them, the board isn’t used.

what's her motive? she had the vehicle which is worth probably more than either of them have and studies have shown men are 95% always the aggressors in fights. and besides she looked at least 20 years younger so who has the advantage there? Judging people without any facts of the situation is a silly preoccupation.

They are not medical professionals, they would have checked he was breathing freely, not blood flowing. Moving him may paralyse him. They will be monitoring until the ambulance arrives.
