2:45 Hi, what is this knot? It isn't 8 right? Anyone can explain? I was taught to use 8-knot there.
@andrefivethousand2 жыл бұрын
Looks like some kind of bowline. I’m actually curious what finish Adam uses, as well. Doesn’t look like a yosemite or any of the others I’m familiar with. Almost looked like a simple bowline with a barrel knot on the running end. Hard to tell if he does anything further with the tail there.
@majkelb30572 жыл бұрын
@@andrefivethousand Seams simpler and easier to tie.
@milhollandandrew2 жыл бұрын
Definitely looks like a bowline with a double fisherman/barrel knot to finish. IIRC that’s pretty standard in some areas of Europe. He may choose it over figure 8 because it is easier to untie after being loaded.
@andrefivethousand2 жыл бұрын
@@milhollandandrew yea. I use a bowline then follow it back through - you essentially end up with a bowline on a bight. Surprised he’d have so much tail left after tying in.
@miguelgazquez57172 жыл бұрын
@@majkelb3057 The downside of the bowline is that it's easy to not spot your error if you mess up, while with a figure 8 it's hard to put yourself in danger : even if you mess up the resulting knot will probably hold. On a bowline the knot can just slip. The real advantage of the bowline is that it's a lot easier to untie if you fall a lot (even if a well dressed figure 8 is not that hard to untie either).

I've always wondered how or who puts the quickdraws up on these hard routes? Are they ones just left in the bolts, does the filming crew rap down and put them in or does another climber climb up and put them in ahead of Adam going for the onsight?
@sepposepisto2 жыл бұрын
It looks like it would be difficult to rappel down through the bushes and along the diagonal line. On the other hand, he doesn't collect the quickdraws in the end. Maybe they are there permanently?
@AdamOndra2 жыл бұрын
In many of the hardest routes, the quickdraws are fixed. Or somebody is projecting it long-term and leaves the quickdraws there for a long time. This was the case of Solitary Souls. A few times, I asked my film crew or a friend to put the quickdraws for me (usually just rappelling down the neighboring route), but in some cases I wanted to go as pure as possible - onsighting while clipping my quickdraws off the harness. I have done routes up to 8c+ in this style.
@blouvard2 жыл бұрын
Amazing performance obviously. Particularly impressed by the fact that Adam was getting out of his zone of comfort with this route considering that it’s an old style 8c+ (ie very pumpy) and that Adam is not particularly known for his endurance (everything here being relative obviously…) As an onsight attempt, always wonder how much time Adam must have spent at the crag reading the route from below, thinking about it and waiting for the perfect conditions? Or was it really the case of “driving to the crag one day, looking up for 10 minutes and sending it”? ;)
@lukehellwig79082 жыл бұрын
It seems like it was more the former, with a lot of time reading the route from below and waiting for the right conditions. He even mentions studying pictures of the route. Just no beta!
