I've noticed that 120 is the lowest you'll see a car go on ANY highway. The Highway 407 can have up to 150 probably

I used to commute Barrie to the gta, no one was driving at 100km/h. If there was nothing causing traffic to be slowed, traffic was moving at 120-130 Km/h. Driving at 100 Km/h on a 400 series high way it terrifying.

Yes! Yes! It's loooong past due! 120/kph is totally reasonable! (Cops aren't going to like it.)

The cops don't want it increased to...120/130, because it will be much harder for them to make their ticket quotas!

If it's like 120 to 130 km/h, don't speed up too much. Otherwise, you'll get into a car crash or a speeding ticket. This is also a reference to a highway in Texas with a higher speed limit of 85 mph.

It's not the speed. It's the lack of skills, vehicle maintenance and tailgating that keeps the speed limit down. Besides the poor are on the QEW anyhow

This is the North American mentality: Keep limits low, so when you drive like an idiot and crash, it causes less damage. What a backwards way of doing things.

Safety is an excuse by the police in this case. Traffic engineers decide the speed limit by setting it at the 85th percentile of the speed everybody would naturally go. Whenever the last time that happened when a road had no speed limits for data observation. If it was a real concern lane width would decrease and speed bumps would be added occasionally. Design the road so people feel uncomfortable going over a certain speed, don't punish good drivers because they can comfortably and safely drive at 150 km/h.

Raised speed limit on all hyws from 100 to 150 for fastest lane = less traffic Hand out tickets to slow drivers or idiots not moving over on fast lane Ontario should also get rid off front licence plate why is Alberta and Quebec so special It’s not fair it’s an eye sore It effects Aerodynamics fuel consumption Waste of metal Waste of money GET RID OF FRONT LICENSE PLATE IN ONTARIO

I can't speak on canada nor am i a civil engineer so i could very well be wrong. But at least here in the usa our interstates and highways can have your driving a relatively straight line for miles, even across entire states. I've thought for a long time toll booths should just be replaced with cameras to read license plates and that the does limit should either be raised/removed or more likely only apply to the right lane. That way you have known safe speed for taking off ramps and exits. Since you should only be in that lane if your turn is coming up soon. And let the other pages go as fast as they feel is safe. Note in only advocating this for interstates and similar highways. Not in towns and city's or anything. Leave that up to the city to handle themselves

It should be 120km! If you think about it. A highway like 69 you can go 90km per hour while there are driveways, stop signs and business entrances. Yet you get on the limited access 400 series highway and you can only go 10km/hr faster. It doesn't make sense. Makes me think its not about safety. Start putting a minimum speed on the highways. Keep transports in the right two lanes only!!

“It’s time for a change in Ontario. The world is moving forward with better highways and modern speed limits, and we should too. Increasing the speed limit reflects advancements in road safety and vehicle technology, allowing for smoother, more efficient travel. A speed increase will also help reduce congestion, decreasing traffic on our highways and making commutes quicker for everyone. Ontario deserves a system that keeps pace with progress.”👊🫡🔝

Canada is way behind in highways, freeways, and normal roads compared to USA. There is no way its a good idea to increase speed limits. Country needs to build more lanes and additional highways. A highway like 401 is like regular highway in any american highway in a small town. CANADA ROADS AND HIGHWAYS SUCKS plus weather makes worst on top.

Very simply the higher the speed you travel the less chance of survivimg a crash. And an unexpected mechanical failure or tire blowout, no matter how unlikely is possible so for myself 100 kilometers an hour or 62 miles an hour is more than adiquate and a lot safer to get the road speed down in the case of an emergency.

@bmw803
@bmw803 6 жыл бұрын
They're going further, because it's an arbitrary number that has no sense. Back in the 60's and 70's, cars had terrible handling, braking and exploded during collisions. AND YET, the average car traveled at 70-75 MPH. The limit is fine within city limits, but in rural areas, YOU FALL ASLEEP at 60 MPH. And that encourages distraction, which is far more dangerous than going at 130-140.
