Great looking model. Love your content. Firefly was a great example of making the best of what you have. Adapt and overcome. Her effect on German tank crews can’t be underestimated either. Virtual attrition can be beneficial. Just her presence in the battlespace could give commanders pause. At the very least she was a force multiplier. Plus she lead to people yelling hold my beer and cramming a 105 into the Super Sherman 😄

Canadian and British Shermans were steel track and that was a preference I believe.

The Firefly did what it was supposed to do, deal with German heavily armored tanks. The ergonomics were only horrible if you were the loader. Which is part of the reason the 17lbr barrel was rotated onto its side, making it easier for the loader to get the shell in. The Brits sent over a Firefly turret which was installed on a US Sherman for testing. The US decided the US 76.2mm gun was not fightable in the stock M4 turret. The 17lbr gun has a larger breech than the US 76.2mm in the same turret. Needless to say the US thought the 17lbr in the stock Sherman turret was unfightable. There was not enough room for the loader to be efficient and the long gun breech divided the turret in two which is why the Brits installed a escape hatch in the roof at a time when the US Shermans did not have one. The US evaluation did like the addition of the loaders hatch which is thought to have spurred interest in the US addition of a loaders hatch in later turret versions. The British used the Fireflys in a support role, one Firefly per Sherman troop. Once the US fielded their 76.2mm Shermans in August 1944 for Operation Cobra, they were used the same way, one or two 76.2mm Shermans to each tank platoon. As more Fireflys and 76.2mm Shermans became available some units got two Firefly's or 76mm Shermans per troop/platoon. Great job on the model. Just bought the Dragon Firefly Vc so watching other peoples Firefly videos to get ideas for mine.

I can attest to the firefly being cramped, having been afforded the opportunity at a young age. At least in the turret it was. And that was when I was a skinny high school kid. Honestly the firefly was a good tank destroyer. That 17pdr not so much in the support role for infantry compared to the 75mm. It also sacrificed that extra MG. role limited Also John, would love a video on matching Greens, Tans and Greys for painting to their historical paint schemes!

Dunno for me painting WW2 Tanks in olive green, the usage of Oil Paints is mandatory, its so easy to apply and the result is amazing

I think if you went a bit lighter on the preshading then it would have been more present but it is still really nice. I would take a look at color modulation and try that out, which is pretty much preshading technique but the actual colors instead of black to white.
