This review was a long time coming. The Ontario RTAK II has proven to be a great large survival blade and Ontario has proven to be a company that stands behind their products!

Really enjoyed this video! Actually showed the knife in use, unlike so many other videos where they just sit the knife on a table top and talk about it for 15 minutes. Keep this up!!! Very informative, and when you do talk, it's on topic about the knife and how you've used it and your experiences with it. Really great!!!

+Nicolas Bast Thanks man. It's not always possible but I try to show knives in use as much as possible, especially outdoor style blades like this one. Thanks for the comments. Take care.

Thanks for the great video. Really good to get some solid advice from someone who uses the equipment heavily. I did a lot of research before buying a RAT 7 from OKC, and I kept hearing how their customer service is excellent. They seem to genuinely care about the reputation of their knives.

I don't understand how anyone could complain about the scales, people always complain about the scales on a knife no matter what knife it is. I think the RTAKII has the best scales out of all the large choppers out there, hands down. I heard quite a few people complain even about the Junglas handles, saying that the knife "rolls" on them. If OKC would have thrown micarta scale liners on them, it would be the absolute perfect handles of them all imo, that's why when I stripped the coating on mine, I left the coating on exactly 1mm from the top of the scales, and left the coating on all the way to the very bottom of it. I put a sharper edge on it, and it is extremely, fiercely sharper than it was before, this knife has a vicious bite to it and can even shave with the darn thing. I must say I am very proud of it and can't wait to get a kydex sheath made for it. It's so much sharper now that I can actually do fine work with it and can even feather stick a matchstick, it's that sharp! I'm still going to carry my Esee 6 with it as a small task knife and yeah, I know it's a hit or miss with this knife, but once you get a good one, like I did, you hold on to that thing. OKC is no more and I got super lucky when I manage to find a brand new 125th Anniversary Collector's Edition RTAKII and got it shipped to Manitoba Canada. Anything after 2024 is a BRK Ontario so I'm NEVER selling my original OKC RTAKII. Hell, I regretted selling my first one but now this one will definitely be a a heirloom. I know where there's another 125th Anniversary RTAKII and I might get that one again and hold on to it, though I find it weird to simply own a large knife that cost me almost $300 Canadian just to let it sit in my dresser drawer. Good video by the way and I hope your RTAKII has, and continues to serve you well.

I thought that I wanted a big knife for camping/survival, but I changed my thinking. . The 9-10" knife can do about any cutting task, but it does them all poorly.....(OK, big knives are handy for batoning kindling). I don't want to carry the big knife, unless it's the only cutting tool I have. By tasks, I mean: cut cord or fabric, carve wood, fell a small tree, cut a log to length, process fish and game, reduce wood to kindling, cut brush, and dig dirt. I'll always have a pocket knife. Carrying a big knife got moved way down the list. For bush craft, I'd want these in order of importance: 1) A stout, 4-7" belt knife for most stuff. 2) A small saw for felling and cutting wood to length. 3) An axe for:splitting(carefully) firewood, hammering, felling bigger trees, and driving wedges. 4) A more delicate 4-7" knife that's flat or hollow ground. 5A) Certain environments might call for a true machete. 5B) A small shovel. 6) A big knife. A small axe will split kindling just fine, with no risk of serious blade damage. The axe does bring more risk of accidental people damage. And dang, I admit that I still want a big ole knife, a kukri, and a parang.

Duke Makedo haha. I agree with everything you say. There are many other options that do specific tasks better, but dang, they are just plain fun!

I think it is funny that everyone assumes ontario is such a large company when I live 15mins from them and it is a small old rickety brick building in franklinville ny and is much more of a family owned company that has been around a while who just puts out a good knife and stands behind them!

Say Heah, I still wonder if I made the right choice, Instead of getting the RTACK 2. I went with the Ranger RD-9 and the Ranger Afghan both are with the Hi-Viz Orange. The older blades where tempered in a higher RC, so they dropped the H C so now they don't chip as easy. Infact I had a great experience with my Ranger RD-9, we had to start a quick fire and I held as my friend batoned, The wood was knarly and immediately we seen the blade bend (curve) I thought the knife was ruined so I told him to continue and it straight ed out to both of our surprise. I still use that set and it's still working great. I got the Ranger RD-9 because I wanted to team it with the Ranger Afghan, but also it's a shorter blade and I thought it might be more cobtrolable. It's only a 1/2" difference, but a little thicker at 1/4" thick. .I think for the money OMK.C. makes some awesome knives. I might still get the RTAK 2.

+paulie 4x I have never handled the Afghan or RD-9 but I do have the RTAK II, RAT 3 and RAT 5 and as far as I am concerned OKC makes some awesome knives. I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of them.

Yup, I always wonder if I made the right choice when I watch a RTAK 2 video. But I'm sure I did, because I must of evaluated the two. I feel a shorter blade is more cobtrolable and the difference in blade lenght was only 1/2" difference, But the Ranger is thicker, So I must of felt it was a draw. But I certainly would like to have that 19" RTAK 2, But I also matched my Ranger T.F.I with the Gen2 SP-53 and that's one heck of a chopper, I also have the SP-51,, I do like the Saber Grind for wood processing. Anyhow You did a good job, Because now I want one. I wonder how well it would team up with my Blackbird SK-5 ?

That's would be the powder coating making your blade get stuck from deep penetrating swings, try and smooth it out a bit with a fine sand paper without removing it and you will havea whole new animal....
