Great review of this beast! The SP51 really is an underrated blade as there are few reviews on it. And it's a shame Ontario discontinued it. I'm all about saber grind fixed blade knives for the better strength over full flat grinds. I did take the plastic insert out and molded it so the blade stays in even when turned upside down. I also don't mind the sheath as I store a fire starter and a flat sharpening stone (the same one I keep in my hockey bag to hone my skates in the locker room before games). I've put my SP51 to the test since getting it a couple years ago. And I don't baton my fixed blade knives. I understand guys doing it in videos to show a blade's capability though. The only knock on the SP series I have is the handle tang. If this one had the full width tang, it would be even more of a beast. I just received a new Becker BK9 because I was interested in the comparable length, saber grind, full width handle tang and pommel. But I am kind of disappointed in the thickness and handle feel compared to the SP51. The BK9 handle feels a little short and I don't have huge hands. So after having the SP43, SP46, SP49 and SP51 I am absolutely sold on 5160 and it's toughness. I don't know if Ka-Bar's 1095 CroVan can match Ontario's 5160.

Yeah, the SP-50 got all the press, but the 51 was better. Sadly, both are discontinued.
