Got it. Love it. Use it to pick through ice on occasion when setting rods ice fishing in -20 to -40. Really thought it would break the tip off early on, but it's proven me wrong for a few years now. Thumbs up on this one.

Bought one of these at least ten yrs ago & I have to agree. This knife has held up extremely well with some hard use in different environs for me. A great camp knife for chopping and batoning. Back then I paid $40 at an Army surplus store. But truly even for $10 or so more it is well worth the money. Great vids btw. Can't stop watching them.

I think saber grinds are more effective than full flat, u get that wedge action earlier than with the full flat. Also I heard the unground portion of the saber grind absorbs the impact of the baton rather than having the tension transferred directly to the edge which can increase risk of blade breaks.

I was thinkin about getting an SK5 Trailmaster. But you know what? This is supposed to be the same size, but Made in USA. Cheaper, and US made... that fucking rules!

I bought this knife last year and I have used it to chop limbs off of trees, chopping 3 inch logs in half, and yes, batoning through said 3 inch logs. This is a great knife for the price, and will fit the role of a small hatchet nicely. I carry mine on a molle thigh rig and a small survival kit. Fire starter, light, flint, vaseline/cotton balls, two whistles and para-cord. Anyone considering to buy this knife, really listen to Nutnfancy because he knows what he is talking about. Great video! Watching in 2015, ordered one just 2 days ago, got it now, and damn, it is manly! Do not regret buying! :) Got one of the new ones that are lazer etched on the ricasso instead of stamped. Not sure if this makes any real difference, although the look of the stamped is slightly more appealing.

my dad always complains i need to use a hatchet around the farm to chop. but i love my raider to much! i took the origional coat off and tiger stripped it black and polished an area for reflection in a survival area! but the raider is a beast of a knife!

I've had mine since 2005, used it extensively far above the polar circle and far below, during my work in the army. I love it to bits! it has never failed me, it has not seen anywhere near as much rust as other knifes of my colleagues, and proven to be an all out durable tool. the ONE thing I dont like is its sheath. anyone have a good idea for a new sheath?

I have a version of this knife from Ontario and I LOVE IT! Full tang, high carbon steel, great grip. I sharpened mine to a razor and it's held up to some pretty good abuse. I do agree that the sheath is not the best. For the price, you'd be hard pressed to find better...

They're similar. Both are a type of Kraton. My Ontario gives me a great grip. I would totally recommend Ontario.

Eagerly awaiting the test in the woods, I want to see how she chops and how the blade geometry works in real life. Also, try Breakfree CLP for rust protection, once I started using it, there was no going back. Guns, knives, swords ect.

Great Knife design, but I think it would be much better in the 5160 Steel, that steel preforms great with larger knives, like my Ranger RD-9, which was bent alot, and straightened right out, and another beast of a knife my SP-53, but if you say the 1095 is good steel In that knife, I trust you, Thanx NutN.

I have the SP19 TaskForce. It's similar to this, but a bit smaller, more regularly-shaped, and has serrations for the first 2 inches. I know what he means when he says you need to hold this knife if your hand in order to appreciate it. It's big, thick and heavy. Almost like a mini kukri machete. You will feel like Rambo himself when you hold it. I keep mine hidden behind my bed and sleep well at night.

The black paint is a rust protection coat and is great for tactical use so your not shinning sun rays around. ALSO MADE IN THE USA.

just bought one 2nd hand...........missing the belt loop on the sheath, but I'll soon cobble up one myself. Reminds me of the old US Bolo Machete, even though the blade shape is different..........the 'concept' is the same. Both have 1/4" thick blades, a substantial double guard, and a hooked grip. The overall length is about the same, however the blade on MY Bolo has had a hard life, with evidence of substantial hammering on the spine.....I suspect to baton kindling ? And the blade profile is different, more like an axe grind......which should be no surprise as Plumb was one of the contractors who made these big knives. The handle scales are held on with Bondo and the guard has been belted forward, but it still cuts well despite being at least 70-80 years old..........I suspect the Spec Plus Bowie will do just as well and last just as long ?

I received this knife by accident. (I ordered the SP6). Seems alright. But it's not really turnin' me on. Maybe if I get out and beat on it a little, like my (now discontinuted) Kukri from Brigade Quartermasters. Love that knife. My only beef with the Ontario knives is their shoddy sheaths.

yes, i know, we are all different so its a matter of taste. Anyway, I know Ontario and Ka-bar gives much knife for their prices. In deed, I am now searching for a marine raider to buy and try it, so i can compare it with my high end survivals like my Busses, and with other cheap stuff like Ka-bar Heavy Bowie, but is much out of stock anywhere.

@Slowboy123458 Rtak II is about 110 bucks, the SP10 is 59ish and the CS trail master (if you can currently find one) is about 130-145... I almost put down the 140 dollars for a CS trailmaster in SK5.. Until I picked up a SP10.. Frankly I can't see the SP10 doing any less of a good job then the Trailmaster. I really do feel like I can clear a forest with the SP10. Also Ontario seems to have updated the blade coating it is no longer just paint but paint and epoxy.

@vjanda1 - Cold Steel makes excellent knives. The 12 inch bowie machete by cold steel (as reviewed by nutnfancy) is one such knife. But as a general rule, machete's are thin blades and usually not good for batoning through logs. If you want something that is just tough as nails, look into this SP10 the equally impressive Ontario SP5, Cold Steel laredo bowie, etc. Any of these would be a suitable (and stronger) substitute for a machete, but they will be heavier.

i have to say that i prefer my sp-11 over the ps-10. I think it's the leave shaped blade that i prefer. Having said that i far prefer my kukri to my sp-11 especially when it comes to chopping, it's got a far better weight to it, it holds an edge like you wouldn't believe and it can be used for a myriad of other jobs. but as with everything, every-one's view will vary. different strokes for different folks and all that.

Thats a tough one. Ka-bar should be a better batoner since its full flat grind, ontario will chop better, it seems to have more weight up front and its 5/8 inch longer. I dont know about durability, by a look marine raider seems tougher, but i cant tell because of heat treatment and tang and other variables. Nutn will know, he tested both of them. And since he loved them both, i dont think choosing either one of them would be a mistake.

@general38 I think the blade would rather explode than bend... The carbon makes it VERY hard and more crispy than other steel types.

its not that they have wider spines, its that the width of the spine stays full right up to about last inch where it tapers sharply into main point.

Great value for the price. But i dont like that clip point for survival.I preffer drop points. They´re more safe and dont take out weight where its most needed.I like full thick spine all the way thru the blade if its posible. 1/4" thickness if its posible. Of course we are talking about a 60 bucks knife, but i don´t think this Ontario can outperform my Busse FHS in any way.Even beeing a longer blade.

Most of the time he goes alone, mainly because no one wants to do it with him. In my personal opinion I would not recommend going alone unless you know what you are doing. If you feel the urge to do so, take precautions and lots of them.

You can find these at chestnut ridge knife shop . com for $33. They're factory seconds but nothing at all was wrong with mine except a pen dot sized chip in the coating. Go buy one! they only have 3 left!
