Parents today suck, and their spoiled little brats suck even more. I don’t blame people for not wanting to become teachers anymore, it’s so thankless.

There is such a need to give the schools funding! Teachers should not have to be putting money out for classroom needs. Neither should parents! We pay a lot of money in taxes, the government and school boards need to stop using money for their own pockets and begin to put it where it belongs…towards the future of the country-the children. Teachers need extended breaks in the summer to attempt to recuperate from being overworked and overwhelmed. The behaviours that are coming into the school systems are atrocious. It is utterly unacceptable that a teacher cannot discipline a student anymore. Parents, stop doing everything for your children and teach them to do for themselves, you are only doing a disservice to them if you don’t. For heaven’s sake discipline your children!! If you don’t discipline them with love at home then they will go out into the world and someone will discipline them and it will not be with love!! Get a grip and stop being afraid of your children. Finally, if you are expecting to put 27-30 students in a classroom there MUST be another well trained grownup in the room at all times. Children can start school n Canada as young as 3 now, as long as they turn 4 by Dec 31-Do you as a parent want a junior kindergarten class with 27-30 three and four year olds with only 1 adult? It’s absolutely chaos. To the government, as children are told in school …make better choices!

Class sizes keep increasing, without evey discussing it with the teacher. More students than chairs. The student names are very challenging to learn for me. I teach college and have 600 students per year, maxed out at 44 hours/week. I work more like 50-60 hours per week. I cannot remember names. And starting to forget faces as well. I am maxed out on number of classes and class sizes. I spend so much time grading, prep... I feel like a robot. And I use to love grading too. I asked for more time to grade correctly so I can give good feedback, but I got so much push back from management. I thought I was going to court they way they acted. It hurts their bottom line and their bonuses. All the blame goes on teachers. Parents, students, and society blames us. Since maybe in childhood they had a bad teacher, they think all teachers are bad. Some of us are great decidicated teachers! And want a normal life. How about people blame the government and management?

I did not know this was an issue. I teach overseas because I couldn't get a full time contract. I may return back to Canada, from a Vancouver Native..... Interesting.

@ginac-u4s - Why couldn't you get a full time contract in Canada? How many provinces did you apply to? I'm thinking about applying.

But how do teachers get paid within the two months having off???? Like do the teachers just stay home doing nothing just watching tv and movies everyday for two months?!!!? And what are those teachers are going to do with themselves?!???

What do you mean? Teachers are not paid during summer. They work 10 months per year and get paid for the 10 months they work. It doesn’t matter what they do in the summer. And teachers are not getting paid enough for what they do.

@@michelleglowala2360 - right, their "yearly" salary is divided up; they are not getting any "extra" income. How is that overpaid? -- Historically, teachers have been underpaid and only get increases based on educational advancements like earning a masters degree, etc.

If they stopped going on strike constantly holding the kids hostage maybe we would respect them. They want more more more. Respect has to be earned. Summers to recover??? Barf

They want more because the Government/school boards keep asking more from them and adding to their workload. Hence, they are not given any funding. A lot of people don’t know what public schools are like these days and yet talk about something they don’t know.
