Was visiting Florida back in March and took my son spotting at TPA. Looked at west side and there were planes parked all over the taxiway. Heard the pilots complaining that they were there for 1 hour and needed to shut down engines to save fuel. ATC only would say FAA shut down airport, arrivals only, but no departures. Went to east side and there was the Vice Presidents 757. Never seen an airport turn into such a large parking lot before.

OMG what a nightmare. Hello Captain: Excellent video. Years ago I worked at MKE and when ORD had WX problems we would get 20 to 30 diversions per eight hour shift. We had 15-20 Greyhound buses ordered to transport everyone back to ORD via bus...It is only 72 miles, usually 90 min ride...But such a nightmare; I got chills watching this video. Bad memories. Great video.

Awesome video! Question, when diversions occur as they did in this video, are the airlines under any obligation to get passengers to their final destinations, or are they pretty much on their own?
@912automotive2 жыл бұрын
Most airlines usually wait for the storm to pass over and then be on their way again
@CaptainStevenMarkovich2 жыл бұрын
Good answer by viewer they typically wait maybe refuel and on their way again. Sometimes crews timeout etc. When its weather airlines aren't held responsible.

Typical BA triple with dirty flaps. Especially on a 22 year old plane. Those planes fly so much that maintenance doesn't have time to give those birds a bath. Speedbird is a reference to the logo first used by British Airways' predecessor airline Imperial Airways, in 1932 then when BOAC and BEA merged in the mid 70's to become British Airways.
