As another person mentioned it was very good to see him working along the bottom with the trowel making the job easier for the joiners and also to see him fill a hole in the wall which he did Not have to do, what a genuine and caring bloke top man, thanks for showing us your amazing work and giving newbies like me a better crack of the whip and making it easy to understand without waffling. That's because as a spread we don't get time to clean em. I worked on site for 40yrs as a plasterer and using sand/cement backing with carlite finish or lime. The speed went up over the years as new plasters came out, like toughcoat/hardwall and so on. With speed came cutbacks, socket boxes, ceiling rose holes and so forth were left as-is because trowelling over 80 metres in one go gave no time to stop, let alone clean boxes out. I have cleaned boxes out in households which I have not done many, as most of my work was on large stuff; schools, warehouses, gyms and hospitals.

The most important method to take from this video is to apply two coats, 2nd coat little milker than the first make sure the skim coat does not have any little hard lumps in the bag when mixing 2nd coat, smooth first coat before you put on 2nd .

My old dad found plastering quite taxing on his body in the last 10 years of his work life, so he tried to specialise in doing the small jobs that no other plasterers really wanted. He had ties with electricians, window fitters and plumbers and basically went around filling chases and small voids after the workmen and snagging. He said in the last years of working he made the most money ever for the least amount of work. If he didn't opt to do this sort of work, he is convinced his body would be a wreck in his old age.

Good job. 👍 Every aspect considered. ⭐ My apparent award winning plasterer moaned about every room, took matters into his own hands after being given specific instructions, complained about and argued with other trades on site, set bent beads, stopped 3-5 inches from the floor, left gaps between the wall and ceiling, and covered all floors, cables, pipes, and windows in plaster and then left without cleaning. Just earned himself a new award from me... #1 worst plasterer ever. 🏆
@satchelsatchel
@satchelsatchel 11 ай бұрын
Why did he seem to be an award winner? Did he make this claim? Plasterers are bound by codes and regulations to follow certain standards. It is not the plasterer's prerogative to leave a job incomplete or to spread plaster where it does not belong. If I were you, then I would seek recourse.
@ottofumbler7267
@ottofumbler7267 11 ай бұрын
@@satchelsatchel Yes... he and others did make this "award winning" claim, and it was published online. The main issue I had by the end is that he just wasn't as good as he thought he was. Maybe winning an award had gone to his head? All I know is, the contractor who recommended him haven't used him again since his performance on my project. I had too much on my plate to seek recourse, so I just settled his bill to get rid of him. My time was worth more to me than any amount I would have looked for in compensation.

Plastering is a bad habit once you've mastered it you can do it in your sleep .......you certainly don't have to go to college to learn this .....oh and very rarely any drawings to have to read ........I started out as a joiner then went plastering with a plastering mate of mine ......joinery is far more difficult on the brain than spreading .......... Not knocking just saying

@@plipertyplap4899 I'm thinking of getting into the game. But more and more places look for qualified plasterers. Are you saying it's better to start off by working with a plasterer(like a helper, apprentice type thing) instead of say, doing your NVQ 3 in plaster training?

@@alwayslearning7672 I started as a joiner I always played about with a plastering trowel but it was only when I went working with a plasterer that my work reached the required standard and I got fast enough to get some meteridge on ... plastering is hard dirty work I developed skin problems because of it had both knees replaced and an elbow opp .... BUT all I can say to you is give it a go try to get with a reputable plasterer that will teach you ......trust me after a short time you will know wether or not you want to do it day in day out yearly.........there is nothing glamorous about being a plasterer but you will earn money 🤑 ......good luck

Having been plastering for 40 years or more, about 20 of those years with my dad , who taught me , it's a pleasure to see someone with pride in his work and doing thins logically. Also, while you are clearly fast enough it's great to see a job without a bloody mess everywhere. No point slapping it on like a loon when there's more on the floor.

It's true - some plasterers do make a hell of a mess. In fact this chap is the cleanest plasterer I've ever seen (I've not seen that many - I usually do my own (slowly and badly - plastering well is hard!))

I use lime to set the bond off quicker always keep a small amount in an old 10L paint bucket with lid on or 20min easy fill for the finish plaster 😁👊

A plasterer that clears the back boxes... that's as rare as hens teeth. Most of them don't bother and leave them full of gear.

As my job was a tiler for many years, not all plasters care about the tiler coming in after them. Yes they plaster and cover the walls, but how many plasters, make sure that the plastering they have done is straight and flat for the tiler ,answer none ,they don't care as long as they have their money. This guy is a nice guy, he got 600 pounds to plaster this kitchen, then the unites draws and everything else is fitted, that will cost around between 1,500 to 2000 pounds, then the tiler goes in and prices his jobs ,and the number of times ,i had people say how much, when i was asking around 200 to 250 pounds to tiler it. well you have to explain most of the time that ,the plaster has covered the wall ,but it is not straight, so it is not a case of just throwing them up. I bet thee is a lot of tilers out there who will tell you the same. But saying that in the end i went on a 6 week course ,and did the plastering as well myself and the walls were straight.
