Subletting is still rampant. If NEA care to know, check up the popular stalls that closed down. It is supposed to be illegal, but due to relationship the reporting was not done and the practise carries on. The greed of original NEA stall owner is unlimited. One of the popular one was the Marsiling Mall Hawker center TianTian Nasi Lemak, the repeated fast increase of rent were first passed on to the customers, and at the end they chose to close down.

Hmm, social enterprise model??? Why don't our government owned and government linked social enterprises hire these skilled hawkers and pay them a monthly salary with CPF contributions? This way, these hawkers don't have to play the "charity" role to reduce the prices and it will not eat into their monthly earnings. The social enterprises can then set the budget meals as low as they can do it, without lowering the income of the hawkers.

Hawkers MAKES A LOT OF MONEY with their HIGH CHARGES. It is cheaper to eat in fast food joint, food box in convenience store, fast prepared packet in grocery. SFA need to monitor on SAFE FOOD of hawkers. 😢

Indeed, the Boon Lay and ABC Brickworks hawker centres are positively filthy. Boon Lay uses mouldy buckets to wash the plates and cutlery. Clementi Hawker centre too looks like 3rd world, dark and filthy, never renovate for 30 years. There should be a central cleaning plate area with hot water and dishwasher machines. Not manual dish washing. They look terribly unhygienic. Most of the expats/ foreigners (except Malaysians) do not eat there at all. When the places are closed for 3 days of deep clean, they always reopen looking as if nothing has been done at all. Not even using pressure hoses to hose down the floors!

all hawkers under declare their income, u really go and count properly. the cost of ingredients at bulk lvl is not as high as u think. Lousy "dory" pangasius fillet cost less than a dollar per kg they sell fish and chips at 6- 8 dollars. go count how many they sell a day
