Headed to Montrose, then you have to drive up to Ouray (pronounced "yur-ray"). It's one of the best places on Earth, waaaaay better than Aspen. Check out Box Canyon Falls, and the Million Dollar highway into Silverton. Born and raised in Colorado, so this is the inside scoop.😎

Your honest portrayal of the vibe among the people in Aspen was very refreshing. I think it is one of those towns for the Jones's to be seen and be kept up with. If anyone's curious the van was in the canyon because the guy drove off the road on purpose before his court date on serious charges. But he woke up alive and well with his van balanced on the rock spire and was rescued
@davidbochmann58112 жыл бұрын
There is a very dangerous curve right there that occasionally gets both motors and bicycles. However it is the location that a lot of people choose to commit suicide. The van in question was a suicide. It happens a couple times a year the national park service tries not to talk about it the local government tries not to talk about it because they don’t want people to be copycats. But it is called cool shivers point because it is such a dramatic drop sheer cliff right off the edge with almost no guard rail

Looking forward to seeing if you decided to take on Red Mountain Pass in the next episode. If you're looking for a ski resort with a more friendly vibe that is much more affordable than Asspen then try Purgatory. It's north of Durango and while not as flashy as some of the others for us locals that's just fine. If you want the flash go to Telluride. It's almost as expensive as Aspen but with a lot less (well, maybe not a lot less) attitude. The skiing is killer and the scenery may be the best in Colorado.

We stay in a National Forest Campground 15-mi North of town (on Hwy 550). Haviland Lake Campground is unbelievably beautiful deep in the woods and surrounded by mountains, with Haviland lake at the foot of the CG. 50-amp electrical service yet big sites deep in the woods. There is also a little ski area called Silver Creek in there too that is cute and used to have night skiing. It may still. Winter Park and Silver Creek are close to each other so and easy drive. Granby, Grand Lake and Winter Park are great in the summer as well and more down to earth than Aspen. Thats also the west side of RMNP so a lot of camping options as well. Oh, and Palisade is really known for its peaches. It's late in the year for them but if you can find them, they are awesome.

1:12 Perfect shot of this town. A sea of old white people wandering aimlessly. I have lived in Grand Junction since I was young. Complete culture shock once I moved out here from Baltimore, MD. There are next to no black people here. The college brings in a few athletes here and there, but this place is a pretty backwards town. The city has amazing views, and honestly, there are a lot of great people here, but if you are from Grand Junction, you know what a dump this place is. Nepotism runs rampant here and you are mainly out of luck if you are not from the area. I'm glad that there are people who can enjoy this place, but most of the people I know here are overworked, underpaid, underappreciated, and undervalued. There is nothing for kids to do here for the most part so our community has had huge problems with drugs. The city council and other decision making members of our local government have done everything they can to discourage new businesses in manufacturing, agriculture, and technology. They want the money and resources of a big city, but want to stay the same small town, leading to the residents bearing the burden. Rent and housing has become a huge hardship for a lot of people I know since the pandemic, and the general outlook is bad for many residents. We also have a huge problem with homelessness here. Honestly, I'm counting the days until I can move away from this soul suck of city. Again, a lot of amazing people in Grand Junction, but good god this place is only enjoyable for the privileged few. The rest of us are doing the best we can to raise our families and be a part of the many amazing communities in Grand Junction. Can't stress enough how many friendly, hardworking, and amazing people here who deserve better. Sorry to ON World Travel for this comment, but the only time things change for us in Grand Junction is when we are under a spotlight. At least you guys are bringing attention to this place and showing what an amazing experience it can be. Heart-breaking what's been done here over the past 20+ years I've lived here. You can delete my comment if you like. I wish you wouldn't though.

It's so refreshing to hate on Aspen... If you actually rip, you know it's a legit ski town once you look past all the Gucci and Prada.. The combination of vertical, terrain variety, size and snow quality/amount makes it top 5 in the country and the best overall Colorado. Palisades, Jackson, Snowbird/Alta and Big Sky are the only mountains in the same league. Aspen/Glenwood is also a ski bum paradise if you actually live/know the culture and the rich/famous people in Aspen are way less snobby than places like Vail, Deer Valley, Park City and Jackson.
