The reason why I bought the reMarkable 1 back then was because I thought having more functions would distract me from my studies. That's also why I preordered the rM2. But I am more and more questioning, if that was actually the right decision... Because now I always need my reMarkable and a tablet to access everything study related, but with this, I could do that all on the same device... It's getting hard to justify paying more or less the same price for a device, that has less functions that I need to compensate somehow.
@twospirits411

I came to that same conclusion a while back too. When I finally figured that I needed an e-reader/writer for all the note taking I do, along my research I ending up of changing my view of how I will utilize such a device. While "no-distraction" is the goal, in reality I ended up having to access other areas that forced me to use tablets, pc, etc. It's nice having one device that is a e-reader/writer but gives you the options for so much more.

Agreed. A review probably would have mentioned that the device has less storage than the Note 2, less RAM, 30% less battery capacity, all while being 10% heavier. I mean it looks nice but those are some serious downgrades!

You're tapping your finger on the screen to activate buttons and drag text around. Does that imply that no special pen is needed? Also, you hold the pen like a paintbrush... are you avoiding contact between your hand and the screen surface? How does this interact with a host computer?... can you transfer files without intermediary cloud software (Dropbox, etc.)? Can drawing on the Boox be shown live on the computer? Thanks.

Would love a comparison with the Air - it will help ne decide which one to buy 😊 My first impression is that the Note 3 is basically a mini Max Lumi, and that the Note Air is basically the successor of the Note 2; with respect to e-ink screen tech, stylus, and touch ID y/n. I’ve had my Onyx Note for around 2 years or so. You don’t get android updates, but Onyx features come, and there has been a massive performance improvement from the day I bought it, and most features from newer models have been coming like the different refresh rate levels, pinch zoom to notes, etc. The latest update adds layers to their notes app, which I really hope we get. Otherwise The device works great! Does what I bought it for. I think 2 years worth of updates seems to be in order with these things. I won’t be upgrading though. I just moved back to Australia from Hong Kong. They had a shop in Hong Kong where you can test it out and play with it before buying. Reading all the hassles people having ordering these things online, I just hope my model lasts me couple of more years until it’s time to come back to HK for a visit.

@@isiaac5715 Well, if writing is what you do most than remarkable is the device to get. However, for me, Boox multi-functionality is still more useful. I bought their Boox T76ML for ebook reading and their Max 2 for writing. So far so good. Maybe I will get their Note Air gen 2/3. Waiting to buy a 10.3 with Front light for manga.
@belaruscitizen

I think the same. With the latest models the support improved and Onyx Boox introduce new features with updates, But with old models like I have (Monte Cristo 3) they only fixed the obvious bugs but not improved the usability which is quiet bad for old models. And the support lasted for about two years. If they produce model with new name the differences significant to other product lines. But if they release new model in series like Monte Cristo changes are minor. I think the Onyx Boos updates models so frequent due to market demands and market competitors.

@@giannisozo7928 Writing feel: highly subjective but he didn't notice any dealbreaking stuff after testing dozens of e-readers so far and I didn't see much delay with the write responses. Exporting notes: welcome to 2015, where we had to worry about this basic thing. Battery life: depends on your personal settings again. Set a robotic arm to draw nonstop while blasting the lights or watch youtube nonstop and you'll experience a few hours of battery life. Read an hour before bed time every day and baam, one month of battery life. Which is the true value? Both. As long as the industry won't develop specific testing applications designed for e-ink devices, these factors won't be measured in a highly repeatable and constantly scoring way.

@@menpee I don't know, as you said, writing feel is subjective, so maybe it's a glassy slippery surface but he likes it because he is used to it and so he didn't mentioned. Me for example would hate it. So he has to describe it as much as he can because we aren't able to feel it through this video. And this point could be a dealbreaker for many people, so I think it's super important to describe it at least in one or two words. Battery life on the other hand is pretty hard to review as you said, but maybe a little "after x hours of using it with bt and wlan enabled the battery has decreased by xy percent." would be nice.

UPDATE: If I may share what I've learned, the Note Air is a very poor product after all. Once I received it and spent several hours with it, mostly marking up research pdfs, I discovered how truly horrible it is. That's despite the glowing reviews many give it -- but keep in mind 90%+ of those reviews are made by people that don't really use the device (i.e. they are 'reviewers') or don't use it daily for professional applications. But, there's also one more thing I discovered... the Onyx company that makes the Note Air and other ereaders is extremely unfriendly, and they are bound, as they said in an email, to "policies of the Republic of China" and thus are unable to handle returns or refunds like the rest of the world has become accustomed to. I went through endless (and pointless) communications with them about doing a return. I'd only used the device for one weekend, that was all it took. My warning is to not do business with Onyx, unless you've got money to burn and like getting walked on. The money spent on an Onyx Boox e--reader would be better spent towards a high-end regular tablet. Original comments: Yes, a fine device. I have a Boox Note Air. But the software is pretty awful when you actually sit down to use it. For some reason in early 2021 it's still ok for this to happen -- make a nice device, load it with software that hasn't been through rigorous "usability" testing. What you have in the Onyx Boox operating system (an Android version) is a patchwork of interfaces that do the same things, but in different ways, layouts and workflows. It's quite annoying and quite clear that multiple programmers had their hands in it all, each with their own idea of how to implement things. If you're in the Notes area, there's a simple and useable UI. But move over to the vaunted NeoReader and you're in for a nightmare of mish-mashed toolbars and icons top and bottom that make your head spin. And then there are odd third UIs that show up when certain pop-ups happen. In the end, it's an unnecessary mess. My advice to Onyx, invest in cleaning up and unifying the numerous UIs that exist on the device. And, let's not even get into their horrible spelling and language usage errors that pepper all of it -- a product of English not being the first language of this device's creators. Nor, the non-standard ways of logging into their bizarre online cloud system with nomenclatures that require looking up, studying and trial by error. I'm still within my 15 day free-return window and am in doubt about whether I'll keep it, though I know there's little real competition in this market.

@@armchairbushcraft2164thanks for the answer. I wonder why the bigger screens haven't the same density (ppi) as the smaller ones? Why the bigger screens don't made from the same matrix (or how it names) as the smaller?

Hi, I have a question about this interesting product: how is the writing feeling? Is it like that of Remarkable 2 or worse? I also saw that pre-ordering it also has a protective film. Why? is it easily scratched?

I dont know which one to buy. But Im really leaning more towards RM2 because of the writing experience. Can you draw and shade it and tell me if it feels like youre using a pencil?

Have you ever tried to scan this device with antivirus. A scan with ESET antivirus for android detect 15 malware (system app) named Android/autoins.O and Android/autoins.M any suggestion to remove these malware ? It seems that the malwares are inside the system code delivered by Onyx :/
