I spent the past 3 weeks trying a Boox 10.3 and decided the e-ink tablets are not (yet) for me. My main use case for digital writing is writing on PDFs completing documents I use for teaching (handouts, quizzes, tests, etc.) and I currently use an iPad running Goodnotes. Like anyone interested in e-ink devices, the idea of not looking at another screen for part of my workflow has its appeal. However, working with documents on e-ink devices is just not sufficiently intuitive and it is glacially slow compared to an iPad. I'm an enthusiastic user of e-ink readers and really looking forward to the ability to write in books that's coming to the Scribe soon. But, as possible paper replacement, e-ink just isn't there yet for me. Enjoy the content and will certainly be keeping an eye on e-ink developments to come.

I highly considered the Boox Go 10.3 but actually decided against it. The size was way to big for my needs. I had many of larger A4 and A5 Sized tablets in the past and they do not fit my work needs for e-Ink device. Ended up choosing the SuperNote A6 and very nice for my overall needs. The Boox Go does look fantastic. If they ever offer this in a A6 device in the future I might buy one. Great video thanks for sharing.
@dono42Ай бұрын
It's the opposite for me. 10.3 is too small for me. Nearly all of my content is A4 PDFs and it is too difficult to read on this size. I wish there was a Boox Go 13.3. (I am aware of the new 13.3 Boox Max and will evaluate it further but it does not seem to be what I am looking for.)

You still like it?
@jennythomas235124 күн бұрын
@thatoneguy94512 I like it but I would like a better Calligraphy pen style or font like Remarkable Paper Pro. Other than the writing part, I'm happy with everything else on Boox Go 10.3 offers. I had initially purchased Remarkable Paper Pro but ended up returning it because for me it wasn't worth the price for what it offers. I also purchased Viwood Ai Paper it will arrive Wednesday so I'll have to compare the Boox with Viwoods and make the final decision on which I should keep. I was waiting for the Supernote A5x2 but it looks like they are going to take a while to release it. What I learned from my experience is purchasing most of these and comparing them is the only way you can tell what would work for you or what you would like because each of these tabs are unique in its own way. Even after watching tons of reviews, it's still hard to make a decision. So I decided to purchase all of the major brands (Remarkable, Boox, Viwoods, Supernote) and try it myself. Once the Viwood arrives and if I like the functionality and writing style then I might keep it and return the Boox.
@jennythomas235123 күн бұрын
@thatoneguy94512 I wrote a long reply yesterday but looks like it has disappeared 😕 Anyways, Boox is pretty good. I like it so far except for the writing part. I wish it had a better calligraphy pen or font like the remarkable. So I ordered Viwoods it'll arrive tomorrow so I'm going to compare it and decide which one to keep. Each of these brands are different. So for me the only way to know what I really like was to purchase them all and try it out and keep the one I like and return the rest. That is the only way to know what you prefer and works for you.

Very interesting to read, as someone still using the Scribe but considering buying the Go 10.3, and as someone who also thinks he might have trouble living without the frontlight. But as Kitt pointed out, I suppose one could simply use the Go 10.3 for everyday writing tasks (and more), and then pick up the Scribe (or a smaller eReader with a light) for other situations. Maybe I could make that work for me, too.
@scottbecker3485Ай бұрын
P.S. Have you found the „white“ of the screen, itself, to be somewhat grayish, as one reviewer pointed out? Or is it acceptably white?
@philologus6577Ай бұрын
@@scottbecker3485 I think it is acceptable. It does have a little grayish hue like a newspaper but the more light you have the less grayish it appears. I've compared it side by side to my Scribe and it looks more white than the Scribe screen. But that could be an optical illusion from the whiteish bezel vs the black. All I can tell you is that text looks fabulous on it. So crisp and clean because you don't have those extra layers in the screen for light.

@@scottbecker3485 I use an LCD desk lamp at night and do not miss having the frontlight. I was actually surprised when I first bought it how little light it actually needs to be usable. It's definitely fun to read on. I have the Kindle app on mine but I have converted all my Kindle books using Calibre and loaded them onto my Go 10.3. The NeoReader that is the proprietary reader for Boox devices is so good. I can make the text as dark as I want. The most amazing thing is how the NeoReader does PDF files. It can clean up bad scans that are dark and make them readable just through a couple adjustments. It took me a little bit to figure out how to set it and optimize but once I figured it out it's been no problem. I can't tell you how good a device it really is. Kit - thanks for your detailed content. Really helped me settle on a Boox 10.3 Go. Couple of weeks in and really impressed with it, the integration with Microsoft suite is very impressive (in tune very easy to setup) - hand writing in word and one note (and text conversion is better than expected). Also liking reading via the kindle app / screen and Neo reader of PDF’s - very impressive product for the price point. Only had a few glitches with set up as the security verification didn’t work - and intermittent glitch with WiFi verification (screen gets caught in a loop). Only slight frustration is 8 digit security code - so have played around with sleep timer settings to balance security with practicality of entering code each time device sleeps. Thanks again for the quality and detail of your reviews - really supported decision (and purchased via referral link). May invest in a different pen.

Using mine right now. Two complaints I have with it is the scribble to erase feature doesn't want to work much, and when you want to convert an entire page of handwritten notes to text, you have to circle everything with the lasso tool and use the AI box that shows up when a lasso has been created. Using the AI conversion feature will just add the text on top of handwritten notes, having both together, which doesn't make sense to me. It took me a while to find, but I had to enable automatic spacing for the handwriting part of the keyboard, don't know why that wasn't a default setting. I bought a rechargeable book light to use it in the dark, which solved the no front-light issue, although there can be some glare coming from it if not positioned correctly.

What’s strange about all these E-Ink tablet reviews is how the screen colour appears a lot whiter and brighter than what I’ve found them to be. I like the tablet, but since I am usually in darker rooms, I think I will migrate over to something with a front light.

Has anyone covered how BOOX manages actual note files and the PDF it creates and where it stores them linked to the Library that only sees the PDFs, very wierd and confusing, Why doesn't the library just see the .note files - overcomplicated

How wel does MS Whiteboard or OneNote work on it?
@charliedulinАй бұрын
Im signed in to my work stuff, including OneNote on my Boox Tab. It works just fine.

@@charliedulinso it is responsive? Om even on iOS/iPadOS, whiteboard can be a bit finicky… hence my asking

I want a slightly smaller version with a frontlight - instant buy. Really hoping BOOX will get around to this.
@geekdaniel7595Ай бұрын
no frontlight is a deal breaker for me. Retunred the Remarkable Paper Pro because it was too dim in everyday indoor lighting (though plenty bright enough at night). Got a Kindle Scribe and hate the file handling, but the feel is good and the front light is amazing... I'll stick with the Scribe for now.

I have a Scribe and agree, the file handling is terrible! Great writing experience though

I'm calling it based on Kit's video release choices - we're totally getting some sort of Go 10.3 tomorrow, and likely a color one. Otherwise, a 7.8 with pen support. "Boox Go 10.3 is the best E-ink device you can get right now" would suck to release right before a better non-Go, Boox product is released. This is my Utterly Intelligent™ reasoning 😅😂

The remarkable paper pro is far better in my opinion

If Boox could make it so their notepad was as simple as Remarkable's notepad I'd buy one. There's so much wasted screen with the toolbars, I want to collapse them all up and out of the way.
@EyeLean5280Ай бұрын
It's lovely but for me, it's too much. I have lots of devices that do lots of stuff so I don't need my e-ink tablet to do a lot. In fact, I need it to do less and stay OFF the internet so I can focus on the task at hand. I will say the drawing capability is fabulous and if I didn't prefer actual paper for my artwork, I would perhaps be considering the Boox.

I just need a backlight!
@karlmunford7000Ай бұрын
With respect, I think you mean a front-light else the e-ink layer would block out the 'back-light below it. Still, I'm sure you know that but as I still often mistakenly do, you're using terminology relating to computer screens and not e-ink. An E-ink front-light is a thin gel layer set over the e-ink layer, which illuminated by hidden led lights along the edge, then reflect off the e-ink layer beneath it.

Get one of the other eink android devices in in this side that does have the front light. Like the boox tab that i have
@IkxiАй бұрын
No backlight? uff So nothing for nightshift then Definitely wouldn't buy two e-readers just to have this and then one with a backlight Seems kinda wasteful
@charliedulinАй бұрын
This Boox device is xesigned to be as thin and light as possible for this display size. Boox offers other devices in this display size with a very good front light. They were the first to offer the cool and warm light mixture years ago.
@AchalMadkan-og4exАй бұрын
Can you advise something that comes with a fronlight that i can read newspapers and magazines on as well. Color or not doesn't matter but ability to see crisp eink text and in dark is what i am looking for..returned my scribe because i cant read wsj and stuff on it@@charliedulin

I owned one for 1 month, bought for an eyewatering €420, and it was already spontaneously broken from high internal pressure, no impact whatsoever. No guarantee or money back, worst purchase of my life. There is simply no way that this guy is not paid by Boox to say these things, bc there is no such thing as a long term user of a go 10.3
@KitBetts-Masters18 күн бұрын
And yet every time I do a post asking for people to vote on their favourites Boox comes out on top. Maybe all those guys are paid as well. Or maybe "this guy" just got unlucky and got a faulty one. Which might be a worthwhile comment to read if you are worried about the durability of cramming everything into such a thing device. I'm sure yours should be under warranty, Pierre is it? They'll replace it I'm sure.

I'm not sure how 7.8" is a bigger size than 10.3"--or maybe 7.8" qualifies as a fingerprint reader or color somehow--but that's why I'd be getting something else. Really, this idea that tablets need to be bigger to be better needs to die. In a fire. Screaming. Live streamed.
