Better that than the guy that's been training 6-9 months and still doesn't own any gear...

@Jay Ryan True, though I find that in general if someone's been coming that long and they can't afford something someone will give them their old stuff, it's just the people that obviously could afford it, but just don't want to bother that get to me.

Dafuq multi colord belts. Purchased
@w8ngr3 жыл бұрын
Ok the belts are a bit much but if someone showed up to their 1st class with all too brand gear to me that shows enthusiasm or does onxy just shame people who have money who maybe can buy branded Willy nilly without fear of price that’s not for you to judge as long as they pay the price for the class/membership what equipment brand they use or equipment they buy (especially when it’s gear they will eventually use) is non of the staff/gym/fighters concern I believe you do not have a right weather it be a full time fighter who can’t afford branded or weather it’s a newbie who buys all the gear and no idea-r that’s none of your concern if they pay their membership/class price terrible way to detract people from learning the sport over trivial things like how much someone’s gear is compared to their level

I know this is from a week ago, but it's all jokes man. They're just poking fun at the newbie stereotypes, this one being about someone just buying everything even though they have no clue what the stuff is for. In no way is Onyx MMA shaming people who can buy stuff. Also, in case you haven't noticed, this whole channel is mainly skits based around MMA for comedic purposes. They aren't sending out PSAs to ban one thing or discourage another. They're just making jokes, don't take it too seriously.

@@skippy8062 fair enough it is a comedy video but if we make fun of stereotypes about people buying branded then we also have to laugh and joke about people who can only afford bare basic just to keep it fair
@skippy80623 жыл бұрын
@@w8ngr You're misunderstanding the joke slightly. The joke isn't that he's buying branded, the joke is that he has no clue how to use any of the absurd amount of equipment he purchased. I mean he doesn't even know what a mouthguard is for. Having a lot of equipment is fine and I'm sure Onyx MMA would agree with that, they're just joking about the overeagerness of a newbie. They could've also made a skit where there's a cheapskate member who refuses to buy anything and only uses the bare minimum, and that would have been ok just as this skit is ok. And if I remember correctly they have joked about that kind of thing before, just not in a dedicated skit. I'm sure that if this were to actually happen at the Onyx gym they would guide the person through how their equipment works, and help them get sorted with what they'll need for their class. From what I've seen from the non-skit videos the Onyx gym is very friendly towards people, and I'm sure that there would be no shaming or making fun of people in person.

I’d rather tell my students to buy cleto Reyes over rdx/sandee/fairtex/yokkao because I don’t want them paying £40 for a pair of gloves that will fall apart in 4 months and then have to buy another pair costing a total of £80 when I can just tell them go buy an £80 pair which can last much much longer maybe I’m biased but I turtle think 90% of Mauy thai equipment manufacturers are terrible quality even the top named brands in Thailand no Thai glove will ever compete with a winning glove or a grant your calling Reyes branded but it’s probably the cheapest branded glove you can buy even rival gloves are far better than Reyes gloves Reyes is just a punchers glove

But my fairtex is not falling apart on me. I still have it. It has a lot of wear tho.

@@sonofromel fair enough but I bet my grant gloves last twice as long and I’m using my gloves more (as I’m only a boxer) where as your kicking and punching so obv your gloves are going to last a tad longer

@@w8ngr while I do muay thai, I do boxing the most. I got the bgv9 the mexican style ones. Stitches are still intact, just some minor scuffs when you look close but it's at the point that the padding is getting soft. I bet that cleto and grant will last soooooooooooooooo much more longer as well.

@@w8ngr Also people just buy the Thai brands because it's sooo "Muay Thai" I'll do muay thai with Winning or Grant or whatever in that calibre if I have the extra buck to spend. Fairtex is great if you don't wanna get your Winning stolen tho.
