Making Ice Dye Swatches with Dharma Trading Procion Dyes 2023

Wow, I am so excited that I found your video! I am a rope bowl maker and getting ready to ice dye some rope with my Dharma powdered dyes. I never thought about making swatches and so I’m going to do that first. I was surprised that so many of the swatches had two colors In them. Now I am really excited to try your method before I do my rope. I was going to mix colors, but was actually afraid of getting mud. This will give me a much more informed direction to go in. Now I’m gonna watch the rest of your videos and see what you do with these dyed fabrics.

I ice dye a lot of large pieces of fabric and have my dye color favorites. But I am looking for some dyes that don't split too much, but just have hue variations. So back to making swatches! I love your piggyback system. So smart for swatches. I buy bags of ice for my dye sessions, because I need the quantity and even a bunch of ice trays takes time. I have found though that different ice machines produce different shape ice and there is actually variation in the way the shapes melt that influences the final product. So cool! PS. you do a great job of explaining your process.

Hello, my name is Pufferfish420. Yes, I make swatches but I didn't get the splits I didn't ice them. You have helped me so much!! I'm so grateful to you. I purchased an ice machine but sent it back as it wasn't gonna work for me. Again, good job.

I have a question, My ice melted really quickly because it’s super hot. Should I still leave it for 24 hours?

I prefer colors that split, and I don't do swatches b/c you do them I have silicone ice cube trays in various shapes and sizes. They store flat and I just make a bunch of ice as needed
