You might need to regauge the wheels on the tender cheers Patrick Quinn IRL

Hi Ken. If it wasn't for all your bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all! I can't believe all the problems you have had with a brand new loco. Do you think that the problem with only one side of the loco pickups working was a "feature" of just your example, or it is a global design/manufacturing fault?

It's clearly a fault, and presumably wouldn't apply to most instances of the model. As you say, I was just unlucky. There are pick-ups on the wheels on both sides, and the actual pick-ups work fine. I did check further, taking the model apart again. The contact pad on the chassis does have wires properly soldered to both of its pads, so that isn't the problem. So, the problem must be that the other end of one of those wires isn't connected properly. But that's happening in a rats nest of wires up under the motor inside the chassis... and I chickened out from trying to pull that nest of wires apart, as I figured I could well make things worse. The loco runs ok now, so long as the tender is able to pick up from the left rail, and pass power through.

@@kleedhamhobby Oh well, that's some consolation. I think I would send Rails a letter/email and hope they might suggest something better than just "return the model" - especially if you explain where you live.
