Another great video and your photographic efforts were not in vain. Great job. I don't want to upset you as you are good at what you do but with a little bit more time and effort, your layouts could be turned into something great. I know you are going for affordable layouts, but, unfortunately for me, I can't help myself but I try to to improve my modelling all the time. Fortunately for me, you are there for inspiration and you are giving me great ideas for any future models I will be making. I thank you for your time and effort to bring enjoyment into what is already a great hobby!!!

The layout is coming along nicely, and is really getting to be full of interest. I think you are going to be quite sorry when you finish it as it has given you a few new challenges to overcome. I'll be looking at the any scale website too, thanks for the pointer. Looking forward as always to the next video.

That warehouse scene looks amazing! The bay window is brilliant as it says to me “office of a Boss that likes to have a view of all he oversees” 😜 My lovely lady says she really likes those barges and I think we may get something like that when we build our exchange sidings/wharf scene when (eventually) we build our layout in the new home! And the barrels and general quay furniture look good too 😎 Best thing for me though is the extra arch and storage road. Great idea. I once had one of those old Express Parcels vans...guess I shall be looking on eBay this afternoon 😆👍🍀

Great update Mike, that’s sone of the most impressive low relief you’ve made so far o think. Looks really good. Hope you’re going to be able to see this one through to the end of the build. Will be great to see it completed and running. 7/10 for the camera work. That’s improving too 😊

Have you ever thought of linking 3 or 4 of your switching layouts together to form a display piece ? I was reading about modular layouts for clubs and thought your layouts would be perfect to do the same thing. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to seeing the boats painted.

More absolutely brilliant modelling! You could of course move all of these terminal layouts onto your main layout in the loft as a series of branch lines, and then run a whole range of interesting timetabled operations........but I know you are much more interested in building than operating ;)
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
I tend to do more building. They are all too different to join together. Lately I have been running trains a lot more, hence the slower build
@paulbolton1071 Жыл бұрын
Hi mike i can remember watching one of your early videos were you scratch build some very simple little workmen sheds and you told us if you can draw a triangle and a square and you cut them out from a cardboard corn flake box you will have your building , then its decide were you want windows and doors chimney etc and add the brick or stone paper, even add a row of blue brick around the bottom and grey slates on the roof ? People such as myself need to start small gain some confidence and then go on to build low relief and even free standing buildings such as the engine shed , All scratch built and at a quarter of the price if bought in kit form ? whenever i come across a video that i know i wont have seen before i always start at part 1 and try to understand how your layouts develop , you have many years experience in model making and yes it shows , but when i look at those low relief buildings such as in part 3 i see the triangles and the squares just as i did in those very first videos so anyone thinking they cant scratch build if they follow the basics that you show, they will very soon discover that they can. Paul

Very nice work! I bet the bay window on the warehouse was a tricky bit. Just wondering as to the little 0-4-0 steamer in the video - what it the make and model, please?
@BudgetModelRailways4 жыл бұрын
Correct the bay was fiddle, the idea is its the owners office, it was made by folding a spare super quick signal box window. The loco is a Hornby 0-4-0 from the battle space set. I got it about 4 years ago for £10 from classic rail. I have painted some bronze detail. It's a great little slow runner even over points

Basically a door is approx 12mm by 28mm or 3ft by7ft in real life, with a floor being about 3-4cm tall depending on the type of building and the space you have. The main design criteria is what space do you have and work from there

One question, as a person who is only just getting into making my own layout: that front building adds depth to the layout, which I have heard modellers talk about, but also blocked the view of that cool warehouse shunt you have. Is that just our camera angle?
@BudgetModelRailways3 жыл бұрын
It is made worse by the camera angle, but also it helps with the illusion of space if locos appear from behind things
