I am actually an American that collects a lot of British locomotives. I can understand why you think the way you do of Hornby, given your experience. Surprising you don't think the same of BLI at this point. Personally, I'm not a fan of the purple livery, though I can understand why they did it. Keep running what you like, remember Rule #1!

As much as BLI’s annoyed me, at least they put actual work and care into their details (for the most part) and come off to me as serious attempts at modeling whereas Hornby always seems to make half-toy products

@@DoctorHobby Don't let it tempt you. O scale (at least american) is undoubtedly the least interesting and detailed of them all. even the ridiculously expensive G scale has more accuracy than O, cuz at least they have 2 rails XD

I had a preorder on this one but I had to cancell it due to money problems. It was going to be my first Hornby loco. Right now I have a preorder on two of the New Flying Scotsman dublo, but I don't know if I want to keep them after seeing the issues with this one, and actually, I've seen a lot of reviews of different Hornby steam locos that doesn't run as they should. It's a shame because British steam locos are, to me, the best lloking ones, but I think I'll stick to Roco and Trix models

Atlantic Coast Line did, indeed, have purple! I'll get around to showing some of my ACLs in the near future!

Interesting color - I think I prefer the green ones! I think this tooling dates from about 2006, and its really now lookign its age! That mold seam on the top looks pretty bad. All the dcc ready ones I have are 8 pin. Not sure when or why they made the change to 21 pin. Shoing that in is showing the models age, and really no excuses. That chassis is a really bad runner. No excuses for that! Hornby need to do a better job at quality control. Not sure you can dis them for no lights - UK steam does not have lights like a US loco! Lighting those lamps would be hard to do all, esp the ones on the smoke deflectors. There are plenty of more expensive US locos that have dummy marker lights in esier places to light than those!. Also the cab detail is soo much better than much more expensive BLI loco's
