The whole argument for killing John was to “get away” from the formula of previous movies and “free up” the story. Except that doesnt work when all you do is the exact same thing just changing the names of things. Plus what is the obsession with a domesticated Terminator? They did that in Genesys and it was dumb there too.
@chicken2nite3514 жыл бұрын
I thought it worked insofar as exploring the whole time loop aspect of things - positing that there was a duality between Skynet and John Connor. John Connor wouldn't have existed as he did if not for Skynet sending Arnie back in the first film, so it would seem that Skynet didn't plan for catastrophic success in killing him, hence Arnie not having any further orders after succeeding. It's something of a contrivance, but it worked for me. "New John" so new AI, that would lack the institutional knowledge of Skynet's previous attempts to change the future by way of the past. I'm not sure if it would've been the "same" Skynet that sent back both the T-800 and the T-1000 in the first two films, but I think you could argue that it was seeing as though the first film was a time loop. I did like the second season episode of The Sarah Connor Chronicles which dealt with this head on though guest starring Richard Schiff where two characters from the future who traveled back in time separately realize that they knew different versions of each other since every time you go back, the future happens again, hence "no fate but what we make."
@faz68774 жыл бұрын
Oh it's complete bullshit. Talk about trying to sell the audience that this is something new and a "true sequel" to T2. Meanwhile they do another retread of the T2 plot and steal from almost every bad Terminator sequel. Hybrid Terminator from Salvation - Check. Old Arnie From Genesis - Check. Ending from T2 - check. They killed John, and replaced with the exact same character only as a women with no development. They replaced Skynet (in a Terminator film!) and replaced with a water down version called Legion. No more Stan Winston designs. It's CGI gleep glops with tentacles. Fans deserve better. We haven't got real Terminator since T2.

It was brilliant, and scared the piss out of me the first time I saw it 😂

New terminator wasn't even threatening - he was beaten by everyone every time he appeared(granny, young mexican girl, old terminator model, enhanced human). He was so useless at terminating that at the end he tried to convince/beg Arnold to help him kill his target since he can't even beat them at hand to hand combat.
@faz68774 жыл бұрын
It was really just the T800 and T1000 combined. It was the thing I least hated about the movie, but definitely not original. The dressing like a dad makes sense, but doesn't exactly look badass.
@glennwelsh97844 жыл бұрын
The whole problem with the series is that it is basically beholden to its formula - protector from a postapocalyptic future travels back in time to protect humanity's savior from a time-traveling murderbot. The first two movies did it exceptionally well, and T2 gives the story a definitive, satisfying ending. Every sequel after that feels unnecessary for undoing T2's ending just to keep the franchise going and make more money. Rehashing the formula feels tired, and coming up with alternate timelines feels forced and overly complicated. They should just let the series lie.
@judyhopps93804 жыл бұрын
not just this but we reached a point where the terminators are so advanced, the future war is all but lost
@paulgibbon59914 жыл бұрын
I think the best Terminator sequel was the Robocop vs Terminator comic. No, I'm serious! It did some clever things with the basic premise of the franchise and the idea of Robocop being a vital stepping stone in the creation of Skynet (and the resistance seeking to destroy him, initially being the antagonists), and showed the future where Skynet wins and then the Terminators take to space to seek out alien life and destroy it.
@mrmusickhimself4 жыл бұрын
I DESPISED this movie, even after giving it a fair shake following the John Connor killing. It also led me to distrust James Cameron's opinion. Him saying this film is worthy, is like seeing Stephen King refer to horror films as "The scariest film since (fill in the blank). I'd prefer if they stopped trying to retcon and top T2, and instead relied on making a good movie.

James Cameron is like the great football player who is a crap manager because he expects every player to be as good as he was, like Roy Keane or Graeme Souness. So because James Cameron is working on literaly 10 Avatar sequels all at once he couldn't direct this film himself and trusted someone else to be as good as he is

Every Terminator film after T2 gets 2 things wrong rather spectacularly: 1. Shit on John Conner's future/character/legacy. Just let the guy be the leader we want to see. Closest we got was Salvation but he was way too much of a grumpy asshole. 2. They're trying to make Arnie T-800 to give audiences a familiar face. Problem is, the T-800 everyone loves from T2 is gone forever. That's the only Terminator that had character development. The endless replacements we've had since are fan service bots. tldr; story should have ended with T2.

What? Infiltration IS the _whole_ _point_ of the terminators. They say that in the first film and show it too. The robots were getting blown up so much that they never could reach the bases and attack humans. So they had to pretend to be humans. But all the first ones looked rubbery and unrealistic. So this new terminator (i.e. the first Arnie one) was so deadly because he looked exactly like a human. I think they mention that only dogs could tell the difference They even show a scene in the first film where one of them _HAS_ infiltrated a base and starts shooting all the people there. It wouldn't have got to the inside of the base were it not for the great infiltration ability it has T2 goes into more depth with this, with Arnie explaining exactly how he's programmed with various abilities that help him blend in. And John Connor explains how he does everything wrong and spends most of the film teaching him how to blend in even more (but it's a kid's perspective of blending in so he teaches him phrases like "hasta la vista baby" which is from a popular rap song of the time by Tone Loc called Wild Thing, not really something a terminator would actually need)

The thing I disliked most about this movie is that they presume their own audience to be bigots when they depict a woman being "the saviour" as some kind of edgy swerve. Hate to disagree with OSW, but this is another terrible Terminator film. Tim Miller & Cameron tried to sell this as a true sequel to T2. This was a total reboot that simply watered down every element of Terminator. They use the exact same story outline as T2....again. Dani is a watered down John Conner. Legion is a watered down Skynet. Arnold having a family and chopping up limes is BS. So a Terminator just felt bad about Terminating his primary target? Even with the emotion chip in T2, The most Arnold did was make a few puns. Why did they lower himself into the steel in T2 if he could just hang out and start a drapery business? Just take us to the future and give us a bloody future war (not the Salvation PG13 shit). I want the opening of Saving Private Ryan meets Terminator. I don't need a trilogy. We only have 2 great Terminator films, that were never meant to be a trilogy. Just make 1 good film before you start making 3. The last 4 Terminator movies have been set up movies for trilogies. Yeah same. As a teen I loved T2 the most. But now I'm older, I appreciate the brilliance of T1 as a horror movie. It's so difficult to do horror correctly. Most horror films bore me, so the fact T1 is so good at it really stands out. On a really small budget too. It's the same with Alien and Aliens, loved Aliens the most as a teen, now Alien is my absolute favourite and probably I'd say even Alien 3 is better than Aliens (at least the "directors cut" that wasn't done by the director, I can't remember what they called it; ok just looked it up it's the "Assembly Cut"). I watched the Christian Bale one and then never watched the more recent two, but maybe I'll give this one a shot. I'll have to sit through Genysisis first though I suppose.

Why is Arnie an old man in this film? He's a fecking machine. Do Terminators get grey and saggy as they age?!
@rightsarentwrong56354 жыл бұрын
Yes, they mention it in terminator genesis as part of the plot. Arnold must wait in the present instead of time travelling to let his arm heal. When they time travel to him he looks older with more greys.

It’s a very good movie

It's the sort of movie you highly enjoy while actually watching it, but then gets progressively worse the further you get away from the cinema and think about it. It failed because they promoted it as a feminist terminator movie and while social media echo chambers can brow-beat people in line, it can't make them go to the cinema (see also, Charlie's Angels and Birds of Prey)

Is it just me or is the actor who played Kyle Reese in 5 a Daniel Bryan clone? The face and the short hair is dead on. Distracted me throughout the whole movie.

Genesis is last on my list, I hated that movie 👎🏻 haven’t brought myself to see dark fate yet. Feeling like i don’t need too after watching the review

Dark fate was still better than Genisys. I've never made it to the end of genisys to this day. I just can't get through it.
