Join us in this episode as we embark on the next leg of our adventure in the Australian outback, continuing up the Outback highway and onto the iconic Oodnadatta Track. Our first stop was in Lyndhurst where we visited Talc Alf, a unique outback art installation crafted entirely from talc stone. This was a one-of-a-kind experience that must be lived to be truly appreciated!
After our visit to Talc Alf, we hit the road and journeyed to Marree Station where we spent the night at the pub. We indulged in some hearty outback pub grub, shared a few drinks, and engaged in colourful conversations with the friendly locals. Despite the heat, we had a great time and rested well in our van.
The following day, we continued along the Oodnadatta Track, stopping at the Mutonia Sculptures. This eclectic collection of art, crafted from recycled materials, was situated in the middle of nowhere, yet stunningly beautiful. The unique sculptures were a true testament to the creativity and resourcefulness of the outback.
Our journey then took us to the Lake Eyre viewing platform at the southern end of the salt lake, a breath-taking sight to behold. We took the time to explore the area and soak in the stunning views, appreciating the awe-inspiring beauty of the outback.
Next, we made our way to Coward Springs, a natural hot spring where we were able to relax and rejuvenate after a long day of driving. It was the perfect respite, and we left feeling refreshed and energized.
Our adventure continued on to William Creek, which we'll share in our next episode.
Enjoy! 😊

This is the BEST gift of an education you can give your kids. My parents did it with myself & my brother in the early 70s doing home schooling, l was 11-14yrs old. I'm now 60 and still have situations that l recall things from these years, l went into high school in year 10 a year or two ahead of the other kids and way more mature due to travelling. Also watching yr kids in the car, sooooooi well behaved. Cheers ❤

Love your comments about your Talc Alf experience. We met him 20 years ago and he hasn't aged. We spent 1.5 hrs and heard all the spiritual links . Fascinating for his positive messages. Still have his piece if talc.

Yeh it gets pretty rammed in the high season, we generally move around on the season shoulders so we have most places to ourselves! Just means we put up with the heat! Safe travels. 👍🍻👍🍻

We missed Dirk Hartog Island last time we were in WA so thinking about making our way back there. Probably hang around Ningaloo for a while too, that's the current plan anyway but it seems to change day by day!

So the water below ground in the artesian basin is up to 2million years old at times. While the water in Lake Eyre can be as young as a few weeks because when it rains enough to run into the lake it comes fairly quickly to fill it? The lake filled this time last year also after heavy rain in Qld. Or was it the year before? Anyway the lake fills quickly once the water starts to run down the rivers. And hangs around just long enough for the birds to raise a clutch of chicks. Then it starts to drain away again. Always amazes me that the land is so far below sea level. Other parts of the world where this happens are nowhere near as amenable as Australia. If you could call a massive desert 'amenable'! lol We are truly lucky with our geology. Great episode. Tho I doubt I will go there in the summer months or until maybe August if I ever get there. I am always in awe of the drone shots. Having that thing keep up with you in your car at more or less highway speed is amazing.

Thanks! It would be great to see Lake Eyre when there was water in it and the bird life was thriving, would be a totally different experience! Just another thing to add to the travel bucket list, it's a long list!👍😀

Amazing, I met 'Talc Alf' back in 1978 and he is still going?!! Is he still drinking camel tea?
@VetinaVan
@VetinaVan 11 ай бұрын
He is definitely still going! Probably one of the most interesting people we have met on our travels, his art and ideas are something entirely unique. Not sure about the camel tea though, temperature was in the 40's when we were there so no tea drinking!👍👍😀

Hey Damian, we sold our family home and most of our possessions in December 2019. It was a bit of a life changing moment for us that took our lives in a completely new direction. Home is now where we park it. We will settle again somewhere, but that chapter is not yet written. 👍👍🍻

It has probably been asked before, how much solar, how many batteries
@VetinaVan
@VetinaVan 7 ай бұрын
Hey mate, van is over 4 years old now, still using the original kit i custom built, 1600 watts of solar in total, which is 1100w on roof and 2x250 portables. Running 2 strings and 2 chargers (all redarc) max input is usually 60amps on top of load, so peak at about 75 amps from the solar in total. 400ah of revolution lithium, which does everything we need it to do. Sometimes it would be nice to have a bit more storage, but not often. 👍🍻😀
