Years ago I had one of the all metal Ooga horns on an old truck but it got away from me at some point so I just went to the Pate Swap Meet and bought one like I used to have, cost me 150 bucks but it’s the real deal.

New ones sound like an electric can opener. Older ones sound much better

There's nothing wrong with the klaxon. It just needs to be adjusted to sound right. There's a bolt in the centre of the end where the wires go in, sometimes with a nut locking it in place. Slacken the nut, back the bolt off a little and try again. Keep trying till it sounds right then lock the nut back on.

2:00 yes sounds way better, but i think would be even better if it spun up and spun down a bit slower for a bit longer of the ooga sound

Exactly. I’ve heard of people adding resistors to these. But I wouldn’t know Which one to use.

I’m looking for a super loud loud Ooga horn. When I was a kid my uncle had a perfect ooga horn that was very loud. I heard different sounds but they’re all different and not the one I’m looking for. Got any advice sure would appreciate it.
@melonhead16764 жыл бұрын
Albert Hernandez if look I to an antique klaxon horn. Some you have to add a resistor to because of voltage changes from old cars to new. But I know they sel theme on eBay. But you’re right. Nothing beats the classic horn. That harbor freight sounded horrible.

Harbor Freight 0:31 Vixen 2:01 I only hear a veeerryy slight difference. Not even enough to pay more than the $12 HF brand and its louder too.

You have to tune the harbor freight one and it will song good

Originally I wasn't getting the "gaaa" sound out of my harbor freight one just the "OoOoOoO". But theirs a little screw and nut on the back you can adjust to dial in the proper sound. Still doesn't sound 100% original but better
@melonhead16764 жыл бұрын
Ah okay. I was curious if that did anything. On mine it has some paint marking where the screw was, almost like it was calibrated or something. I was afraid to touch it, lol.

@@melonhead1676 yeah same I just had to turn it to the left a little and now mine works fine. But I don't think a lot of people know Abt this, cuz a lot of reviews on hf website complain Abt it not making the gaaa sound

I read one review where I guy said he added a resistor to it and it helped, but he didn’t give any specifics to try. I’ll have to try adjusting it to see what I can get, thanks for the advice! Much appreciated.

I'm thinking that adding a good sized electrolytic capacitor in parallel with the horn would stretch the spin-up/down a bit.

The Harbor Fright horn is and ugly-awful horn! However, it was all I had to work with so I decided to mess with it. I lowered the voltage to 9 volts so it would take longer for the motor to speed up so it can give the "AH" part in "Ahooga." To get the "OOOO" not sounding like a sick bird, the lower voltage helps. To get the "GAH" sound, instead of a normal switch, I use a special switch from a really old house light switch that when depressed, it lowers the voltage slowly to 0 and not immedietly so it causes the motor to slow then stop, not abruptly. So, with the lower voltage and a slow switch, I got mine to sound like an ahooga horn, but the tone is a little harsh still. If I had the money, though, I'd just buy an original horn and repair it myself...

That Record that’s awesome! I was thinking about experimenting with the disk in it, to see if I could get a different sound as well. We may be onto something...🤔

Oooo never thought of lowering the voltage! I just got one today from pep boys and it sucks lol. Any idea where to find a switch like that?
@thatrecord53133 жыл бұрын
@@jeffphillips7372 I'm not sure where you can find this type of switch. I found it in an estate sale. I also found another way to get the sound to come out by using a potentiometer switch. When twisting it from 0 volts to 12 volts, the time it takes to twist the knob upwards gives the "AH" sound. When you twist it all the way to 12 volts, you get the "OOOO" sound. When you twist the potentiometer back to 0 volts, the time it takes to twist the knob back gives a soft "GAH" sound. It seems like a hassle to twist a knob open and shut to make the sound nice, but I used it on my homemade car (I posted a video on my channel, but unfortunately it doesn't have the potentiometer switch. Just a normal one).

Hi, thanks for this video! Are you able to swap the original horns for the klaxon horns? I see a lot of videos with people installing a separate button for these. I'm hoping to just replace the oem horn with a klaxon.
@rexjolles4 жыл бұрын
You can just hook up the wiring to the OEM horn button

I think (but not sure) some of them are wired for a different voltage and may need a resistor? But not positive.

it is possible to do that. you gotta wire it up to your existing horn circuit. it is also illegal to do that though.
