Without a doubt, your next reaction should be Geoff's solo (actually, there are 4 of him) cover of "Monster Mash" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2O2mGybm8djnsU ) This is THE Halloween song of 2021!!! Geoff's talent as a singer is matched by his talent as an arranger. Everybody knows "Monster Mash", but this is the most imaginative cover I've ever seen since the original was released in 1962!

Lol! Geoff Castellucci, the main vocal in this particular song, has a natural 4-octave range, and can add another octave below that using a subharmonic technique. (That last low note in this song is subharmonic.) Ironically, he considers himself a “baritone with a base range”, meaning he’s most comfortable singing baritone. He’s recently started doing some independent works, posted here on youtube, that are way worth checking out. I’d start with either “House of the Rising Sun” or, if you’re in a Halloween mood, “Monster Mash”. If you are interested, one of his early videos is “How To Sing LOW”, where he discusses the subharmonic technique he uses. I’ve only recently been introduced to to Voiceplay myself, and am still exploring, so others will have to give you a “best of” list. But I will say that their renditions/arrangements of “My Mother Told Me” and “Hoist the Colors” blew me away. The group recently replaced a member, but the new guy seems to be settling in well.

VP is my favorite, hands down. Love their harmonies and always leave with a big smile on my face. So fun. All of the song suggestions are great - but - to get an idea of the beauty of their voices both individually and as a ensemble- check out Tennessee Whiskey, Carry on my Wayward Son, Eleanor Rigby, We're Good, True Colors. Each member of the group is fantastic in their own right, and more than capable of carrying the lead. Including Layne, the beatbox - he has a really sweet baritone and a wide, wide range. They've ALWAYS invited in extra singers for individual songs, but recently there's been some changes in the group itself, so don't get confused by the different faces you'll see. Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatbox, in the light up nose here) are the two remaining founding members (for over 20 years). Eli, pronounced El- EE, tenor, (wearing all red) has been with them almost from the beginning. Cesar de la Rosa is their newest member, and they continue to bring in guest performers to fill out their usual five. Check out Hoist the Colors (Pirates of the Caribbean), Halo theme song (if you want to understand this group, listen to the words at the end), and Friends on the Other Side for their most recent full length songs - Their arranging and vocal skills are audibly growing along with their theatrics.

@@christinestromberg4057 And Geoff's 16 Tons. I know others have a lot of fans, and I agree, but there is something so deceptively simple about 16 Tons. I grew up hearing it as my grandfather worked the coal mines and, later, a lumber company and ended up at the company store. < For those who don't know the term, the company es ould allow edd ofkers to buy groceries for their hungry families and take it out of their pay. Problem is, it is easy to buy when you don't have to pay and there would not be enough left to pay for groceries for the next week and the cycle would start again. (my grandfather worked the mines after the Dust Bowl destroyed their North Dakota farm and the family WAS hungry.) They basically started the whole payday advance scheme. > Sorry for the long explanation, but that song really resonates (bad pun) with me.

Geoff does it all. His range has increased to a A0 growl in Enemy (thanks to Tim Foust teaching him a growl), to Bb5 in Peaches (a VoicePlay mini). His version of Jack's Lament is gorgeous. The guys (Eli rhymes with jelly bald tenor, Earl another high tenor, and J None, baritone) who played Lock, Shock and Barrel with those amazing character voices were crazy. Layne is the beatboxer playing Zero, the ghost dog. Geoff is the master of the subharmonic and he seldom does a growl. All of the VoicePlay members have extensive ranges and if Geoff is singing verses, any of them can fill in with the higher portion of the bass range. One of my favorites is Tennessee Whiskey, another would be Queen in 5 Minutes or Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. Geoff, Earl and Layne (2 others were part of the original group (Scott Porter as beatboxer who left for acting career., Mykal left for Broadway)) from middle and high school with a group called 4:2:Five. When Scott left, Layne wanted the beatboxer slot - Geoff taught him what he knew and Layne ran with it. Considered now one of the best. Eli was in a nearby high school and knew them from competitions. He was in a couple of rock bands before he found a home with 4:2:Five in 2010. (Name change from that to VoicePlay was in 2012). Earl left for personal reasons in 2021. J None came on as baritone in 2018 (now recruited into the US Navy for his vocal talents. His stint is 5 yrs, he's been promoted and transferred from Seattle to Washington DC. That makes it easier to get to Orlando to do videos. He has been featured in VoicePlay's versions of Friends on the Other Side, Nothing Else Matters, Valhalla Calling, In The Air Tonight and Hellfire. His goodbye as a member was MJ's Man In The Mirror. Down 2 persons, VP auditioned folks and settled on Cesar De La Rosa with strong baritone and tenor skills. They supplement the missing slot with featured vocalists which gives them a lot of variety. VoicePlay has chosen to learn everything, from arranging, cameras, set designs, lighting, staging, costuming, makeup etc. and bypass the company management such as Sony. They do it all. The exceptions are when they need the best skills, they hire them. Ed Boyer does the final audio mix as he does for all the best acapella groups, Rick Underwood, makeup and prosthetics, and a few others. Tony Wakim (baritone until 2017? when he wanted to go into productions. He and Layne bought Pattycake Productions and many of the staging is done there, both VoicePlay and Geoff's solos.

And this is not fake--you can hear him do it live or listen to a live performance on You Tube. If you really want to hear them all, try "Tennessee Whiskey". The beat boxer here is Layne Stein. He sometimes sings (baritone) and the arranging for the group is split between Geoff and Layne. I think Geoff did this arrangement (although I could be wrong). The bald tenor is Eli Jacobson (his name is pronounced Ellie). The baritone is J None, though J. recently left Voice Play for the Navy. The high tenor is Earl Aikins who also recently left Voice Play. Since this video, Voice Play has added Caesar de la Rosa (who fits in really well and does a wonderful job) and they've done several covers with "features". The two Voice Play covers I'd like to see you do are "Raise the Colors" (great one for Halloween) and "Halo". You think Geoff goes low here, you won't believe where he goes in "Halo". You might want to catch some of Geoff's "solo" work--"The Headless Horseman" and "Monster Mash" fit in with Halloween. Geoff is a fantastic bass singer with a very large range. I love when he goes from bass to do a 'belt for Jesus' in the higher baritone-tenor range. In their Little Mermaid Medley he does a D5 to D2 run and then drops to D1 as a subharmonic. He's been working on his chest voice and now sings most of his 1st octave notes in chest voice unless he wants the effect of a growl or other rougher note. His final note here is a sub E1.

Geoff Castalucci is the bass for voice play and Tim Foust is the bass for Home Free. They both have about the same range and they both use sub-harmonics at times and it was Tim that tought Geoff how to do sub-harmonics. Both groups were on the Sing-off season 4 which Home Free won.

in school pentatonix would be the popular kids, voiceplay would be the theater kids and home free would be the jocks. if you like voiceplay and home free watch their zombies vs hillbillies video, its a sing off between the 2 and it's fantastic. also really really funny. and about the basses, tim foust from home free has the deepest notes sung by popular acapella groups but geoff is better at subharmonics.

For a more prominent part by Eli (pronounced 'ellie'), check out their cover of _My Mother Told Me,_ that Viking/shanty-ish song you might recognize from the Vikings show on History Channel, and also AC Valhalla. They really do the odd key-change from that composition justice (watch the original on YT before their cover to get a feel for it, people have it in many videos), and Eli gets to do his 'rock lead singer' range thing. It's also got some great beat-boxing by Layne Stein (here with the glowing nose). Another VoicePlay cover that shares spotlight with other members more than this one is _The Little Mermaid - MEDLEY (feat. Rachel Potter)._ VoicePlay has had members come and go over the years, come back for one or more performances, plus guests who come back here and there but weren't officially with the band. I'll leave you to google or wiki to track it, as it's more lengthy than a comment here can do justice to.

LOL it's funny to hear someone's reaction to hearing Geoff for the first time. That low note isn't fake and it's not his lowest one. He has a huge range. Also, Avi from Pentatonix and Tim from Home Free can get as low as Geoff. Another good one to listen to from Voiceplay is Hoist the Colors. It's mindblowing! Check out Geoff Castellucci's own channel too

Just subscribed! Great reactions to Home Free and Voiceplay!! You should check out Voiceplay's 'My Mother Told Me' (the song of the Vikings) then 'Hoist the Colors' (Pirates of the Caribbean) before you take the leap to the Halo theme song. In Halo, Geoff goes down to B0, you might need to 'warm up' before taking the leap. His solo stuff is amazing too; I'd definitely recommend 'Blackbird' (Beatles cover).

Check out Far Over the Misty Mountain Cold by Geoff Castellucci and Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust. Geoff and Tim are the bass voices for VoicePlay and Home Free respectively and these are the same song (from a Hobbit movie). You can hear their vocal ranges here, especially their last note. They both have a 5 octave range. Talk about getting goose bumps!. As to blowing out speakers, check out the half-hour long concert footage titles Home Free Concert Morrison, IL 8/19/15. Tim get admonished for encroaching on the tenors' territory and goes super bass. I never get tired of watching that.

Yeah, the costumes and sets and whatnot -- the theatrics, if you will -- are this group's main stand-out point. There's also Voctave, which I think is a somewhat larger group. Oh, and there's a video out there somewhere that strings together clips from Pentatonix, Home Free, Voiceplay, and maybe a couple of others, showing off the lowest bass note in each song, arranged in order by note value getting lower and lower as it goes. So if you just like hearing low bass notes, maybe look that one up.

Check out Geoff Castelluci’s cover of misty mountain cold and take me home country roads. A lot of his solo stuff will have him singing to/with himself! I think the only one he doesn’t do that on is a Christmas song featuring the American sirens.

Geoff is deliberately voice acting to simulate the original Oogie Boogie. His voice is so versatile that it will often sound completely different depending upon the style of the song. I think you'll also find that compared to the other acapella groups, VoicePlay tends to be a little more Broadway/theatrical in their style, with a large emphasis on Disney songs.

They have also covered What's This?, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, and This is Halloween from Nightmare Before Christmas also and they are all great. Geoff Castellucci (the bass) also has his own channel and just put out Monster Mash for Halloween. VoicePlay has released several videos in the last few months including Hoist the Colours, the Halo Theme Song, and My Mother Told Me. Their Halloween one this year is I've Got Friends On the Other Side from Disney's The Princess and the Frog. Honestly I don't think I have found anything from them that wasn't good. They are the theater kids of acapella groups. They go all out with costumes and everything.

I loved your reaction! Welcome to your new Voiceplay obsession... Almost anything they do is good... and some of it is blow you out of the water good. Their new cover of the music from the video game 'Halo' is their most recent, and is jaw dropping good... please watch it all the way through the commentary. They did Queen in five minutes, and if you are going to cover Queen... well, you had better be on top of your game (they are!), other fun songs that will surprise you with what you can do with your voice is Geoff's covers of 'Blackbird' 'Sixteen Tons' and 'Misty Mountains Cold'... if you love seeing an amazing Bass singer, his work is as good as anyone in the world. From Voiceplay, I like 'If I were a Rich Man/Girl', 'Bang' 'We're Good', and of course their more dramatic things 'My Mother Told Me' and especially 'Hoist The Colors High'. Finally, they did some Disney covers 'Moana Medley' and 'Little Mermaid' that are among the best things on the internet. I really am looking forward to your next reaction videos!

#TheatreKidsOfACappella. Love this group along with Home Free. They have done quite a few Disney covers. If you like this they also did Kidnap the Sandy Claws and This is Halloween. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci the bass has range he has hit B0 up to A5. The Sandy Claws was Geoff's brother-in-law. Geoff has his own channel of Low Bass covers. He just released Then Monster Mash for Halloween and last year did The Headless Horseman where he shows off his range.

Geoff dabbles ln Subharmonics... whatever your vocal folds in the larynx produces, the faux folds above the regular folds produce a note that is one octave lower... for a true Basso Profundo, like Geoff, that happens to be down in the Subharmonic range... some people have learned how to drop the regular note and single out the subharmonic note and bring it to the front... He and Tim Faust of home free have done it so much now it's like second nature to them.
