I am glad that you are going to put the work into it that I could not! I loved that Jeep

I’m really stoked about how solid this little truck is. It may be a little bit before I get serious about working on it, but I promise to do it justice!

I'm on the west side of the Cascades (the wet 1/3 of Oregon) so local trucks tend to be a bit crispy. This one seems pretty solid. Thanks for commenting! :)

I second the Comanche Club forum. there's some guys on there that eat drink and sleep these things. I own an 89 Eliminator completely original stock (minus radiator conversion to open radiator). Its exactly like the one I learned how to drive with when I was 16. Dad had a brand new 89. I just sold another 89 Longbed metric ton. I regret that. The club can confirm it, but i don't think you can just drop a 4.0 in the 2.5 version of this truck in that year model. Something about the firewall. It requires heavy massaging. But I could be thinking of the V-6 version. Also you will have to do something about the radiator. 89 and older were closed loops on the 4.0L although an open loop rad is a pretty easy mod. allowances would have to be made for coolant lines, reservoirs and tstat sensor, fans and switches, etc. Glad I have found your channel recently. These are cool little trucks and super fun to drive. These are working trucks meant to be driven, not show trucks on a pedestal. Look forward to more vids on your toys.

Hi Robert! I’ve gotten some awesome info from the Comanche Club and hopefully shared some as well. Definitely a great resource! I’ve done a couple cooling system upgrades and quite a bit of work to my ‘89 Pioneer affectionately referred to as ‘Papa Smurf’. I hope in the next few weeks to do an episode just on that truck and what all I’ve done to it. Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for watching! :) Bob

I’m seriously contemplating a 4.6 stroker. Keeps everything Jeep and no significant harness changes. I have everything I need except time and money! 🤠

Ls and lift 4x4

I already have a 4x4 Comanche, so I'm thinking keeping this 2x4 and 'gasp' maybe dropping it a couple inches just for something different... Thanks for commenting! :)

4 mj's huh.... Jealouse applause. I believe 97+ is the whole kit'n'caboodle; interior dash for gauge cluster & obd2 reasons. 96 is obd2 but with old style dash & cluster...though not sure if that year switched to coil pack from distributor ignition. As for mounting the block I think you might need break out the welder, never tinkered on the 2.5Litre nor swapped the 4.0 into one. But if your not dead set on 4.0ho, dodge dakotas had 2.5's mated with ax-15's but those were a rare powertrain option. Name suggestion from the peanut gallery; The Grey Goose/Swan or The Texan Ranger... just to poke fun at ford... and texas

Good morning! I’m partial to the old style dash, but odb2 is a great idea. I do have a REMII from Nick in Time Design that has been an awesome tool for my older Renix 4.0. As for a swap? I believe if I upgrade to a 4.0 then I need to upgrade the transmission as well. Different housing bolt pattern. My 30 seconds of research says I should be able to do a bolt-in motor mount and crossmember swap and everything bolts in. My bigger apprehension is wiring. It’s my nemesis… Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching! ~ Bob
