As posted below, using a halyard to pull sideways is the last scenario of self help. However before that you rev the engine up and turn the rudder left right to make the keel work itself out.

Ran aground in my first year with our new boat following another small sailboat into a harbour. Came to an abrupt stop, on mud thankfully, only to realize I was well outside the harbour entrance markers. I have a 39’ with 5’ draft and the sailboat I followed who had local knowledge must have drawn 4’ or less. Lesson learned was don’t fallow the crowd, be your own captain. Monkey see, monkey don’t! Glad to see it all worked out in the end.

My daughter and her friend from college came down to the boat years ago. We went out and I drifted a ground while fishing..They were in the water pulling and pushing ( both college age) my 33' power boat. We ended up sitting there for hours until the tide changed. Haha.. They still tell the story 20 years later! 😁 Love your your journeys and videos.

We’ve run aground 3-4 times in various Lake Michigan harbors - New Buffalo and Kenosha for sure, and maybe one other. It’s stressful but solvable. In one case we had people on the shore pull lines to spin the boat which freed us from the bottom. Not fun but a learning experience. Very slow in harbors or shallow areas after that. Always learning…

I have run aground once or twice. The secret to getting off on a yacht is to get it heeled over. Had a dinghy grab our spinnaker halyard and pull us over sideways.

Jason and Janaye, Hopefully the kitties will grow their fur back soon. As for running around; well never. That is, since I was sailing around the Florida Keys...ha... Three times there. The sand shifts so much around the keys that if you are going through a channel the chances are that if you have a deep draft then you will run around. Once, I had to be pulled off by a power boat, as the wind and current were pushing the boat more into the shallow. Thank y'all for sharing. Cheers! Blue Skies and Fair Winds. Faithfully, James

Jason and Janaye, I have to share this one.. My really memorable encounter was sailing back into Treasure Island Marina, at Plantation Key, Florida.. At the time it had a very narrow channel into the harbor; and the channel was marked by 1 inch pvc pipe. I'm a hard core sailor and have ran the engine only one time, ever. However, this one afternoon on the way in, I ran around. I got into the water and was walking the anchor out to winch us back into the channel when I stepped on a sea urchin. Let me tell you how painful that was... I sprang up to lift my foot up, because it burned like hell; just to come down with my other foot onto another sea urchin. One sea urchin for each foot. Well, of course I sprang up off of that foot to come down onto another sea urchin. Stick three. One sea urchin in one foot and two in the other. When we got to the dock, the owner of the marina told me to soak my feet in lemon juice with meat tenderizer. It really worked. The pain went away and it drew out the spines. A day later, I felt something in my boot so I took off my boot and sock to find a two inch spine in my sock....so weird.. I apologize for the long ramble..ha.. Cheers! Faithfully, James

Yeah bit of a different way of doing it hey. It actually less invasive as it's only a few stitches in the side rather than cutting them all the way along the private parts. I first noticed they did it like that in tunisia and places with a lot of strays as then they could trap, neuter and release pretty much right after and just use dissolvable stitches. This was a french vet who did this and we were pretty happy with that as it meant we didn't have to go back which always stresses them out and is pretty hard from a boat 😅 hahah She was like she was drunk 🙈 Thanks so much Liz ❤️

@LeadingtheEscapade3 ай бұрын
He was actually in reverse which is the engine revving sound you could hear as the depth had dipped super quickly, but you couldn’t see exactly what was happening behind the camera, the guy next to us who had ran aground kind of cut us off and pushed us out of the way as he came unstuck, as I guess he was in a panic to get out, so we were trying to avoid him at the same time. Def weren’t going 3000RPM though, we’ve never done that with our boat 😅
