In addition to Python's Bow, clearing the map with the three green units rescued also lets you access support ranks and conversations for Lukas/Forsyth and Lukas/Python, that you normally don't have in the base game.

You can play the DLC at any time. I once went into the first map right outside Ram with Emma, Randal, Shade and Yuzu just to prove the wiki wrong about deployment limits.

The battle of the southern outpost being hyped up became a meme in the echoes lp because the characters bring it up a lot and then Mekkah and Bismix started hyping it up in a hyperbolic fashion. I think just to poke fun of how much importance the game puts on it early on.
