Roxton Fone last question. Could I take the Keystep to sequence/ quantize into the op-1 tape? Meaning I’d want to control the sound of the op-1 with the Keystep and record onto the op-1 tape, where I’d want to quantize it From what I’ve read, you cannot quantize directly into the op-1 when you record to tape 🤷‍♂️

@@anomeone3787 I've never used an external device to "play" the OP-1. (Only the other way around) so I'm not sure. But as far as quantize into OP-1 tape? That doesn't seem possible. Here's why: The OP-1 tape has a very "analog" feel to it, just like if it's a real tape. You got to be well timed every time you record anything.

You can plug the OP-1 using the USB connector directly to your computer and it's supposed to work with any DAW. However, that never worked for me. Maybe it's my DAW (Cakewalk SONAR) maybe it was my PC, or maybe the OP-1 drivers weren't quite up to date, I still don't know. I decided to buy the Kenton box, and just use good old 5-pin MIDI to connect to my computer's audio card.

how can I record the external gear to the op1 tape? I just have a microkorg xl and I would like to record some melodies to the tape and finish the track in the op1... still I need the ups midi host? and what else to record? thank you!

If I remember correctly, you can't record directly to tape. You have to use to use OP-1's drum or synth sampler to record your melody (you only get a few seconds of recording time..) Once that's done, you can play the sampler and record that onto tape. USB midi box is not needed.

Yes they can, through usb connectivity they can all be assigned

Yes. For example, when the OP-1 is in tape mode, you can tell it to Play or Stop using the MIDI USB cable.
