Dai Hirai is Hawaiian Japanese. So yeah, not surprised that his singing has more plosives (especially the T's) in the pronunciation as opposed to regular Japanese.

I haven't heard the subbed version of this season's ending yet, but from what the people involved in the anime mentioned before it aired (the voice actors), it seems like the lyrics are kind of heartbreaking. That would explain the typical low mood of an ending, the name of this ending is "Recipe for Happiness" so I don't expect it to be that heartbreaking. For now, ending 2 is my favorite.

The ending lyrics are both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. It's a love song and it's really clear that they are from Jinshi's POV, while the opening lyrics are from Maomao's POV.

0:59 It is her first solo Anime Opening without Ayase as the composer/producer. She's done the openings to a few live action drama/reality shows. She also did the Opening for Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction, but that wasn't solo it was a duet with Ano. And then of course there's all her works as the singer half of Yoasobi, but those obviously aren't Solo.

I had the exact same thought while hearing the ED that it sounds a bit different from all different japanese accents I had heard and that the singer might not be a native speaker :D still a nice song! :D

I heard it and couldn't even recognize it as Japanese immediately. The accent is so strong I wasn't sure what language I was hearing at first. It reminds me of when Europeans hear a thick Cajun or Appalachian accent for the first time.

I think the ending is fire. Reminds me of Fruits Basket OSTs. The reason why it sound a little odd is because it sounds like an actual Kdrama OST. Our ears are accustomed to hearing Korean with that kind of tune but the words are in Japanese so it does feel off but I think it’s still fire.

@@izvedewe That wouldn't have mattered anyway. In the time period that the show takes place in, early marriages are common. Everyone is technically legal at the age of 12 or 13. She's 17 right now while Jinshi is 19 (according to episode 20 of season 1). (The "legal" comment only applies to the characters and not us. It's merely a justification for the characters in case Maomao was younger. For us to ship them, if she was younger, it would be weird, but not for the characters)
