My favorite artist, Thom Yorke… something we agree 100%. I really enjoyed your performance and how this great device can be used to record/sample and sequence. I think 20 sec is enough for most scenarios… we’ll need a couple of 20 sec blocks for singing a verse. The OP-XY is the new flagship product of TE, I’m pretty positive that they will fix some of the bugs you mentioned. Have a good recovery for your shoulder.

According to someone on Elektronauts, there is a 120 note limit on any pattern. So although you can get a higher number of steps with track scaling, you are still limited to 120 actual notes spread across those steps. 😢

the digitkt 2, at half the price, can do 16x more notes than that.

@@luismaior I think you may be mistaken. Do you have a reference for that? As far as I know, a DT2 track (which would be the equivalent of an XY pattern) has 128 steps and no polyphony. Hence it has 8 more notes per track (XY pattern) than the XY.

Definitely a big and one I’ve sent over to TE and got the feedback “nice find” so I’m sure they’re working that out. And I agree the internal mic is VERY GOOD on the XY. @@MidlifeSynthesist I haven’t committed to finishing much in my “music life”, but messing around on the XY the workflow just comes so easily, so much so that going back to Z I can use it without a screen. I’ve been able to create fairly fleshed out pieces for the first time ever with XY. I really hope they implement stem audio/midi export, then I’ll more easily be able to swap out instruments in post, add new parts and do some editing. The midi in out is something I hope they fix as well, it’s not easy to use, I really think it could be powerful at the center of a setup. Have you found any good midi interfaces to use yet? I wonder why TE hasn’t made their own USB-C midi interface yet. Have you tried usb out of XY to input of OP-1 Field? I tried this and it was fun to control midi on the Field and also have a longer record time. I wonder if you can record the mic from XY into the tape on Field?

Beautiful opxy and vox worrx!! 🖤 It's so powerful can charge Arturia keyboard, though charges you by stealing some notes 😂 Glad to see it works for singer-songwriter scenario... almost... except 20 sec limit. I guess one easy improvement is to let to record over continuous scenes (2, 4, 8 bars each) over the whole song length. I do this on iPhone Korg Gadget, without breaking creating flow. For that XY does not have a "single take audio" engine yet (multi-sample and drums are cool but hit that 20s cap). I'm sure it will be here in no time and TE replicate 1f tape recording, overdubbing, or rendering into a scenes. So far it works for the ones who can't last more than 20 sec ... I mean can't perform more than 20 sec... whatever .... LOL I'm at the point capturing my first song into Live. Played it 3 weeks, only filled 6 tracks, and could beef-up more, but can't wait. Want to mix, add Moog and listen in phones while biking ... which I still do, placing OP-XY into pocket 😎 Mary Xmas to you and yours, mate! ⚫⏯⬛◼◾▪◾◼⬛✴🖤

the most creepy glitch I found is the crackling and noise if you plug it to your PC. you can't even record because of that. I can only get clean sound when running on battery. others reported too. and the MTP file handling is inacceptable too... only one level of subdirectory and many characters not allowed. and if working it's very slow. even the filetransfer via midi from elektron is much much better

That looks really frustrating. Audio limited to 20 seconds. Patterns limited to 4 bars, and only a few patterns maximum. Those things would make my workflow impossible. I start by humming basically an entire song into an audio track in a linear manner, and however long that is, it becomes my loop, my base unit to build a song from. Typically 384 steps or more, and then it's time for a B part and C part. A short 3-minute song ends up at about 1500 to 2000 steps long, or like 24 to 32 x 64-step patterns worth.
@MidlifeSynthesist5 сағат бұрын
To be honest, I haven’t found the pattern/scene lengths limiting for sequencing midi for long form songs, especially when you add in the trig locks and probabilities, but yeah, if you need long form audio this aint it. Maybe if I add the field?😂 But for real, I’m thinking the perfect pair for this guy might be my Octatrack

Bro I don’t think it’s a bug. I think It’s the 120 note limit per track. Try counting your note count right when that silence hits. If you’re not at 120 yet then may be a bug, but might wanna check that first. Happened to me on some heavy drums I made. You’ll have to loop and step components for changes or need to place additional needed notes if unique on a separate track. I messaged support and they confirmed the 120 note limit.

I'm here to do two things: chew gum and hate on TE.. and I'm all out of gum! lol.. I knew as soon as I heard the "yeah but.." about this thing's limited sampling and sequencing that it was going to be buggy as hell trying to push beyond that. It's almost like they knew they couldn't release the thing at that price if they didn't add the pattern workaround, but then of course it doesn't work right. I find this to be par for the course with all of TE's products. It's like driving a Ferrari that crumbles up into a ball like paper when other cars would just lose a bumper so maybe you don't take the Ferrari out every day. It just sits in the garage, the so called ultimate driving experience not really being driven. I think a lot of OP-XY users are going to start driving their's less and less, or at least giving up on this idea that it's somehow everything they need in a studio. It's really not. I don't think any single piece of gear can be. I'd be bored with this thing's presets after a couple years with it, just like anything else with presets. But I'd also come back to it after a while so it's all good. It's just one of those things where familiarity breeds contempt and abstinence makes the heart grow fonder. But I do feel an emotional reckoning coming for everyone holding the OP-XY on too high of a pedestal. It's been both hyped up and hated on far too much for it not to disappoint both sides a little. It's neither as great as one side says nor as shitty as the other side says. It's time we all accept that so we can get back to chewing gum. And to the Midlife Synthesist, that was an inspiring cover! I keep forgetting you have actual range in the midst of all these gear videos! Keep singing!

@MidlifeSynthesist hopefully I’m wrong. I’m by no means an expert, but I assume the 3.5mm jack you’re using to run to your interface is a TRS while the headphones with mic are TRRS. While technically these two different inserts should ground the same way, in practice it’s possible that TE didn’t place the grounding point in the right location, and idk if that’s something that can be fixed with an update.
