The Secretary of State salary was definitely too low, but the solution is NOT an unelected commission to set salaries. Educate the voters on the issue and do it the right way, through the budget process
@TheAndrewsAve6 күн бұрын
Agreed! I think all elected officials should make much more money and with that increase should come stipulations like they can't buy/sell stocks while in office, work for lobbyists or special interest groups post-elected office. Let's incentivize what are incredibly important jobs with the money they deserve and stop incentivizing these people to look elsewhere for their financial security.

Vote no on measure 118! If passed it will be way worse than a sales tax. All the senators and even the governor are against it.
@curtismcallister95699 күн бұрын
less than 2% of all corporations operating in oregon would be affected by measure 118. mostly because most corporations do less than $25 million in sales per year in oregon. and partly because some corporations already pay more taxes than the new minimum set by measure 118: olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2023I1/Downloads/CommitteeMeetingDocument/285711

Also opposing the measure (according to one of the arguments in the Voters’ Guide) are: Koch Industries, Grocery Retail PAC, Washington Federal Bank, and Progressive Insurance. I think I’d rather read the text of the measure and assess for myself what its impact would be in contrast with the current tax law.
@wombat52748 күн бұрын
@@trevinbeattie4888 Good. Research the measure and see what both side have to say. Just because you see some names you don't like who oppose the measure doesn't mean the measure will be good for the working class. I am voting no because I looked into it after I got a misleading text asking me to vote yes. The people behind the measure are using populist language to persuade people to vote yes.

@@Unsolicited-Info But it’s never 1:1. This is the same argument that was made and debunked with the minimum wage and fast food. Yeah, in theory the minimum wage hike gets passed down in the form of higher prices, but when you actually do the math with how many Big-Macs McDonalds actually sells, it’s a few cents if even that. Most people quite literally lost more money to their couch cushions.
