I read somewhere that Bruce said he arranged a much bigger version of this song- "BTO meets the Beach Boys" and Carl stripped it down. Bruce said his version would have been a big hit. Dont think this song is stripped down, wonder if Bruce's version actually exists....
@ms85966 жыл бұрын
I'm skeptical of his claim. Go find Johnston's solo album. It sounds like some kid's first stab at producing and only was surpassed at sinking to the bottom by any Love solo album.

This entire show needs a complete and official release! 7-4-80, a few hundred thousand intimate friends, under the sun in Washington DC. I taped the live broadcast on AM radio. Still have the tapes. Considering all the turmoil the band was going through at the the time, this show is a sparkling triumphant masterpiece! ALL of the boys, on the same stage! Plus their fantastic road tested long time backing band. Brian sitting towards the edge of the stage playing along on his big white grand piano.., and soaking up the sun and the adoration for his music. Dennis, not in the best shape.., but he's THERE! NEW!! songs to showcase to the crowd! This may be one of the great last shows performed by the original Beach Boys. Too bad Blondie and Ricky weren't there. Many shows from this era moving forward would see the Boys take the stage without the full roster. Brian, Mike, Carl all would have increasing bouts with either personal issues, creative differences, squabbles, fights, band politics....., variously leaving, quitting, getting fired, rejoining..., Then of course Dennis left us. And brother Carl as well. This show is one of the last great moments of this great rock band, in it's original form and performing together as a cohesive unit. Not to mention it was just a flat out great rock concert. I still have the tapes to prove it. The show isn't perfect, but it's GREAT! There were a few technical glitches with the sound system part way thru the show which took around 10 minutes to straighten out. The crowd PA system had gone down. So to keep the crowd entertained during the lull, Bruce sits at the piano and sings his 'ode to Brian', 'I Write the Songs'!!! This show needs a proper release. Glitches, mistakes.., all of it.

Just a few weeks earlier, I saw the boys play at Knebworth in England. It proved to be the last time that all the original Beach Boys played together in England. It was shitty weather for mid-summer but there was a great atmosphere. That concert is available to watch on CD - and You Tube.

I'm so sick of all the Mike haters. Do you know how many years it takes to be a master tamborine player. Also I want you all to try this. With your right hand make a fist,now place the fist on your right hip and extend your right elbow out so that your arm is now in the shape of a vee. Now hop around like a chicken holding a microphone to your mouth with your left hand. NOT SO EASY IS IT. MIKE LOVE IS A DOUCHEBAG NO CARL DENNIS OR BRIAN = NO BEACH BOYS
@kako10236 жыл бұрын
Robroy, Love was so essential why did his solo album FLOP. In addition " integral " Dennis Wilson was so under rated, His solo album was a success . What about Al and Bruce who made the Bach boy harmonies. Mile Love could not even evolve with his tambourine. Brian wanted to go another level with the pop music in day. The fact Mike Love was inhibiting the BB from producing better music.

What is the title of this video special? I ask as I originally thought it was "The Beach Boys 20th Anniversary Special", however my copy does not include this Washington DC concert footage, which is odd as it does include the same Al Jardine, Daryl Dragon and Glen Campbell interview snippets seen at the end of this video. Were there two similiar-but-different releases of the same special?
