Opel Manta's EMOTIONAL Comeback after heavy Crash | 24h-Race Nürburgring

The story of the famous Opel Manta at the ADAC TOTAL 24h-Race Nürburgring 2019 was a real drama. After having a breakdown in Qualifying 2, Manta came back on track for the race until an even harder accident with #46 Mercedes-AMG took him out of the race - so it seemed.

I was at this race in 2015 and the Manta is a real part of the event. This race just isn't complete with the good old Manta, the fans absolutely love it. When I was there at the track and it crossed the finish line (winning SP3 class, 52nd overall that year) it received an applause as big, maybe even bigger, than the winning GT3 car. The Manta isn't just a car racing here, it's an icon!

That Opel Manta is the highlight of the Nurnburgring 24H for me, it's so old compared to the rest of the grid and yet its still going like a boss, such a under the radar car

Even in its own time, the Manta was something of an underdog; the Manta was originally homologated for Group B rallying but was wholly outmatched by its rivals due to it being 2WD and Naturally-Aspirated, when most of the cars in Group B were fitted with forced induction, had all wheel drive, or in the Big Four's case (Audi Quattro, Peugeot 205T16, Ford RS200 and Lancia Delta S4), both. Its direct rival back in the day was the Nissan Silvia 240RS; another 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated Front-Engine RWD car. The Manta's best finish in the WRC was 2nd at the 1984 Safari Rally Kenya, with the 240RS' best finish being 2nd in the 1983 Rally New Zealand.
