Lost my mailbox key and happened to have a picking set around that I hadn’t opened. I watched this video then went and tried it. Took me 15 seconds to get in.

I have this same lock and key on my mailbox. Always worked fine until today key goes in but will not turn. Any tips for that? Im wonder if the post office may have changed my lock in error. Do the numbers on the key match up with the locks numbers?

The key won’t match the number on the outside of the lock. Get some silicons lube. 3 and 1 makes one for locks they sell at Walmart. If you lubricate and you can’t get it to turn more than likely it was changed. They do fail but usually the way that Happens is it works ok then gets worse and worse. It usually doesn’t happen over night.

Hey thanks alot. I think I have some of that stuff in my toolbox I will try it. If that fails I will go to usps since they originally gave me the key and see whats going on.

VapeKing yea if they don’t know you hire a locksmith or order one online and drill yours off. Can be a pain in the ass to drill though

I tried that but the key will not turn at all even after wiggiling it and pulling in and out a tad. I got a new neighbor and suspect the mailman changed my lock in error. What sucks is I had a package arrive today and cannot get it. Thanks for your help anyway.

I buy mine from locksmith distributors but they usually require locksmith credentials to purchase them.

if i wanted to replace the lock, i need to determine if its clockwise or counter clockwise unlock, will that mean i need different lock for each? I have a job tomorrow where they lost keys and i am going to pick it, but ive never done mailbox locks and want to buy some on hand, but i cant get away with a clockwise unlock with a counter clockwise mailbox lock? i guess ill buy both in case

@@pouncerminned863 might have to flip it upside. I’ve seen it done. I’ve always stocked both locks plus some other common cluster box locks so I’ve never had that issue

Trap Dreams people on KZbin usually like seeing single pin picking more than raking. If you’re locked out your mailbox best bet is see if post off will replace it or call a locksmith.

Of course not, I don't know shit about lock picking, the entire mailbox is thin sheet metal and you can grab it by the opening, pull back and grab the mail, takes a couple of seconds.

BluezZ oh ok. Sounds like whoever purchased the box went really cheap. Hoa or something. There’s is some That you can easily pop open with a flat head. There’s better boxes that are thick metal and use thick steel cams to secure the doors.
