Unfortunately the Grahm Chartwell LS6 has been changed in terms of the "look". The new ones don't have the historic thin outer frame on the edge, they now look plain and flat like the LS6f. Probably cheaper to make with one box design. Not as traditional looking.Very sorry to see that they did this.

Right I understand.Mine are LS5/9 and they do have the lip which as you say is a nice aesthetic

Play music with a lot of traffic in it like Michael Jackson Black and White, then you will hear that box speakers are a lot better at handling traffic and a lot more able to be clear and focused like a narrow beam, so there is a lot more variety of detail and the imaging is a hell of a lot better on tracks with a lot of stuff going on. This also gives a more concentrated sound which goes inward, giving more quality of sound. Open baffle does the opposite, it generalizes sound by sending it more wide and working more on the quantity of bass instead of quality. Meaning that yes it plays more free/pleasantly. Fine I get that, but then you also remove the ability to work with the sound. Plus Open Baffle still only sounds good on more simple music types with less stuff going on. The only reason for getting Open Baffle is if you want a lot of good value and you generally want to eliminate harshness/brightness and don´t want to work with the source of the sound a lot, and you want to pretend that the bass is good. And yes the bass is good compared to a lot of lower level box speakers. But compare any Open Baflle to Wilson Alexia V or Magico m6 or Verity Amadis or Audio Note AN-E or Marten Design Bird 1 type of speakers, then we are not just talking about box speakers beating any Open Baffle on the planet, but destroying them with at least 3-5x if you weigh up every part of the detail.
@greatlookinglandscap6 ай бұрын
I do agree with some of your points but your comparing reference 150,000 plus speakers to a mid level open baffle.Its sure not a fair comparison.Have you heard the elite ob out there I sure have not but man again that was quite a bold statement.Plus I am not a fan of equip that weighs so much just in case an issue arises.I like manageable equip now.Stress is stress and should be avoided .I am grateful what I have in the space.Its been many years on a road to nowhere one has to know when enoughs enough.Music isnt perfect nor will any system ever be.You know all this.I just enjoy and dont analyze or critique.It just sounds right in this space
