I do the sound doesn’t engage me as I am a rock listener.These Fyne I am now selling and are the better choice from p3 when it comes to bass,dynamics and rival in mid and top all for less money.Harbeth more pipe and slipper I like a more visceral and exciting presentation.The graham ls5/9 were also in another league here from the harbeth hl5

@@riccitone I’ve been considering buying Harbeth Hl5us, non XD version. I’m also looking into Spendor 2/3. Mind sharing your experience with 4/5 ? Sound, power handling, general impressions ? Thanks !
@riccitone30 минут бұрын
@Aw man, happy to and honored you asked! Really great choices there, have heard the Harbeths but not the 2/3. Don’t think you’d go wrong with those choices! Really depends on the size of your room. The 3/1’s are the next size up from the classics (I believe). My room is only 10 x 14, with system on a short wall. I’ve also got a Rel t/7x to help balance and augment, ad stage etc. Combined with the 4/5’s, it’s positively room filling. I do need to get spl up to 85db peaks to enjoy what that combo can do. I’m running a 75 watt GoldNote PA 10 amp that can about double at 4ohms, so it get them singing when needed. But feel these little suckers could benefit from even more current than what I’m giving them (with caution of course). I think the 3/1’s could still play nice with my room if I went bigger on speakers, but so far I just get more and more surprised by the little 4/5’s whenever I upgrade a component or experiment with positioning. These - and I think the next bigger classic models - tend to sound best when aiming completely on axis - right at you. They sound immensely engaging, with a hint of warmth, but balanced and are incredibly insightful. You hear everything, almost on the level of clarity of an ATC, but they are never fatiguing. Stage is pretty huge, imagining outstanding, center image downright haunting - especially with vocals. They are also as fast as I need them to be, and sound good with just about anything I play on them. One thing is definite, they need either open metal stands or stands with a plate that will match the bottom dimensions of these speakers. They resonate - intentionally by design - and need to be contacted only at the far corners or outer bottom edge. When setup right, they sing like a cello, but still don’t heavily color anything. I’ve rigged some aluminum standoffs to touch only the outer corners with my current stands, made a huge difference in tonality and response. I think the Harbeths share similar tech in that regard. Hope this helps, and please pardon my huge ramble! 👍🏼

Hi Dave, Buchardt, Fyne or Totem stand mounts? What’s your pick? I have currently have mcintosh SS separates pushing cornwall 4’s and love them for the dynamic and scale they present. For my second system I’m looking for more detail & imaging, and eyeing the Totem and thinking of trying Thomas’ Galion TS 34 tube amp. Thanks for the content was just in Van on Friday. Doesn’t get much better than Van on a sunny day.

I have budget of $5 - $15 k yearly for this hobby. So buy I a piece at a time and see what it offers before trying the next piece. Never tried totem but being Canadian have always been curious. what sound signature do you prefer since you’ve had all 3 in your system recently ?

well I love Totem.I like dynamics great low level listening.I like warm but with nice detail and insight.The bass needs to be fast.The buchardt I have are active and superb but hard to recommend as you probably have a full system.Fyne are right there with the best I have heard.I loved Totem embers.You should try fyne f700

🖤Hey Dave, have you heard of Osborn speakers? if you like bespoke handcrafted cabinetry and big value for money, you might like to check out the website sometime.. I know you're prolly wondering which drivers he uses.. they're Focal. Greg doesn't actively advertise, most of his sales are word of mouth. I think sometimes his speakers are overlooked because they appear too cheap.. he's not trying to buy a house from every speaker sale like a lot of folks do.. you could literally hit his cabinets with a hammer and they wouldn't make a sound.. like a lead-lined coffin..

Boxing is alive and well So no worries there That was not boxing except the ladies fight which is what boxing people showed up for BTW love those Fyne speakers perfect for SE Tube amplifiers and based on owners using them with tube amps who say you don’t need more than a few watts but everyone has an opinion
@greatlookinglandscap9 сағат бұрын
I would say minimum 25watts for a tube.They need power to really come alive
@middleearthltd9 сағат бұрын
@ that is your opinion and you are happy like that The person I know, who has had the speaker for a minute, uses a SE 300B at around 6 watts and is very happy with the sound They tried a push-pull tube amplifier and that was suboptimal for them comparatively so that is their opinion The primary feature I like about the SP500 is the bottom porting which makes a lot of sense to me
@greatlookinglandscap6 сағат бұрын
ya its great.I bought these to bring to you guys.I will be selling.Not because there bad just because I have the buchardt a10 which I love after the tune change.I am not going to build a whole other system with Fyne

Wow, you bought the Buchardts. Congrats! I'm sure they are fantastic speakers. With Tannoy, I loved those little Autograph Minis. Amazing realism!! I'll bet those Fyne speakers are similar. Would a 50W Naim amp be sufficient to drive them? I see those Dali Minuets for sale every now and again. Good looking speaker, but -3dB at 59Hz is not a lot of bass.

@@greatlookinglandscap Thanks. I've been saying for 20+ years: big solid state amps + little speakers OR efficient speakers + tubes amps provide some of the best pairings. Obviously there are other options, but those two typically work out nicely.

Mentioned it before, but I'm listening thru the Harbeth P3 ESR Xd's, small stand mount similar to what you got, just coupled them with a Rel sub using the high level output, man, that elevated my sound, dialed in that Rel perfectly with the rolloff on the Harbeths. Sounds great man. Thanks Shrink, appreciate ya brother.

The key is to accept this audio hobby as a problem and enjoy anyway. Join us *steeples fingers* A key way to manage the madness - allow a space, corner or small room/closet dedicated to storage. If you have a room, set up all the crazy in it's dedicated spot THEN - only bring out/have one system running at a time in the main house/living room. Rotate every few months, and enjoy the variety instead of a pile all in the living room all at once 😊
