The ROI on the Rippaverse is just now hitting me. This one book just funded the next dozen books, and those books will still be profitable even if they do half the numbers of Isom 1. Rippa just single handedly proved from an investment standpoint that the suppressed market exists.

I’m just saddened to see so many people are blind to who this man really is. A bunch of sheep following the same kind of person he sits in front of a camera complaining about most every day.

@@SumDumGy Ok enlighten me. What am I missing about the "Real Eric July"?
@SumDumGy
@SumDumGy Жыл бұрын
@@um536vids2 I’ll give you a copy and paste from me answering this to someone else... I think Eric is a hypocrite. He’s exactly the same type of person he spends hours each week in front of a camera complaining about to the interwebs. I’m saddened and a little horrified that so many people have blindly rallied to him like sheep as if he’s at all any different than what he claims to oppose. I spent about a year and a half listening to his podcast and videos. I supported the idea of what he wanted to accomplish...and then I began seeing through the cracks. I think many are as blind to it as I was initially because he’s on “our side” of things, so we sit here and cheer him on. When I stepped back and looked at his conduct objectively, I realized he was doing the same thing he calls out each week: Attacking his potential customer base, declaring people “pieces of shit” because he disagrees with them, wanting people dead, being the aggressor he denounces, dismissing any and all criticism of his behavior on every level. He doesn’t need or want my money, and that’s okay. I just hate that seemingly no one else is opening their eyes to what’s being presented in front of them. ...and I appreciate you asking rather than taking on some attack mode in response.
@um536vids2
@um536vids2 Жыл бұрын
@@SumDumGy I can appreciate your apprehension and I admit to not following all of Rippa's media criticism very closely, but I think that you have misread the situation somewhat if you think that Rippa doesn't want your money if you have some political disagreement with him, and my guess is that you have been caught in the blast-zone around 2 dynamics of this situation. 1st: Most creatives that I have encountered (Rippa included) tend toward radicalism, and generally radical left politics. Back in a more healthy environment for the large entertainment companies, this reality could be mitigated because the company could negotiate with those creatives to fund "passion projects" which would allow them to hone their skills and fully integrate political propaganda into their work, allowing them to use their talents to pursue their political goals. In return, on large tent-pole projects they were expected to, if not check their politics at the door, at least make sure that the quality of the story came first, before any political messaging. When Eric promises "non political story-telling" he is promising a return to that form, not that he is going to give up his radical activism, but that if the story is better served by making an An-Cap look stupid for being an An-Cap, then the quality of the story comes first. If Eric delivers on his promise, even if you detest his politics you can buy his books confident that he will not be taking money from the book sales and putting it towards political causes you dislike. 2nd: This is not the first attempt to compete directly with the captured mainstream and Eric has clearly learned the lessons of Jawbreakers. There is a particular cohort on Twitter who will make criticisms like "if you are so smart why don't you make your own?" which are not meant in good faith. Mark Waid proved that by pulling every string possible to keep Richard Meyer out of the Diamond catalogue. Such people are genuinely not potential customers, they are competitors, and particularly vicious ones at that. One of their favorite tactics is to appeal to the sense on "our side" that we are not being listened to and offer deliberately bad advice, then complain that we are hypocrites for ignoring them. I think that you are making good faith critiques, but there are people who say similar things that are provably hostile to projects like this and I think that your genuine critique got caught in the cross-fire. My suggestion is that If you want people to help hold Eric to his promise of neutrality, rather than opening by calling us blind cultists duped by our leader, instead suggest that if Eric is serious about making comics for a mass market, he needs to get more serious about increasing the separation between his personal politics and books which need to appeal to left of center normies.

The company I work for has to deal with PayPal/Ebay on a daily basis. PayPal/Ebay both demand a tracking number to be added for you to get your money the next time those sites pay you. It is supposed to protect customers from getting scammed and to make it easier for those sites to return the customers money. Now Eric July is correct, other big corporations don't have to follow those rules and it isn't fair at all.

Mr Hislop also made the point that he doesn't want a free to view internet presence for Private Eye because he wants to be able to pay his journalists and cartoonists a decent wage. This was a great Open bar and honestly guys might be the best entertainment podcast out there. Leagues better than FNT which has devolved into a large shouting chamber and obnoxious personalities. Here, you guys keep on topic while also being entertaining and your tangents are entertaining(though, EFAP have the best ones). On the subject of modern western media, I've just grown very apathetic. When I heard the X-men name change I got angry briefly but then I just shrugged. Of course Marvel is doing it. Because in their eyes they want to "fix" a problem that wasn't there. And beyond that they are just producing garbage. The ONLY reason I'm even watching Ms. Marvel and the Marvels is because I'm doing a critique of Ms. Marvel as a character, comparing her to a better example(Midoriya from My Hero Academia). Outside of that I really do not have the urge to watch their content or Star Wars and I don't think I'm alone. The tide is slowly shifting. Yes, you will have the hardcore stans/ blind fans who will eat anything of those brands, quality be damned. But the normies will eventually get tired. And to be honest, I think that Marvel needs to be brought down a peg. Being the dominant player breeds complacency and arrogance. And that kind of hubris needs to be brought down. Hence why I support becoming part of the culture. That's how Hollywood was founded and a lot of things were created.

FNT is much more of a freeform podcast loosely based around weekly pop-culture topics. If I'm looking for deep, engaging discussion, it's definitely not where I'd go. It's more to listen to them just kinda shoot the shit. Unfortunately some of the more recent additions to FNT just don't really add anything, they're generic personalities for the most part. In general I think FNT's lost its focus, to its detriment. It's more of a Howard Stern show kind of thing now. Not really my cup of tea.

I said this on Razor's rant about Rippa's success, and I feel it needs to be reiterated. This renaissance of authors, artists, and creators in general taking it upon themselves, this 'Iron Age' of creativity, has been amazing to watch unfold in real time. And, as an independent author myself, I'm proud to be a part of it. And I have to say that without guys like Rippa, Razor, and Drinker, I wouldn't nearly have the fire lit under me that I have nowadays. Drinker has directly inspired me to begin researching and learning the skills needed to write scripts and screenplays. Both Drinker and Razor were inspirations for me to finally pull the trigger and publish my first book last year, with Razor pushing me to delve into old pulp novels, which I'm now looking to revive in the form of modern nu-pulp, as I'm calling it. So here's to the Iron Age creators. Unbound by corporate bullshit, popular demand, and the ever-expanding agenda/THE MESSAGE. Let's make our mark, and make those in the good ol' boy club punch air.

Another way of handling crossovers is to present them as "what if" scenarios. Not as "alternate timelines" or part of a multiverse, but just a purely hypothetical situation. Don't make multiple "canons", and vet the scenarios properly before writing them to make sure they're worth telling.

In regards to writers wanting to produce good content again, as long as ESG is a thing, it wont happen. It's the driving force behind all of this. It's annoying to accept, because it basically makes all conversations about entertainment redundant.

I’m glad Eric July has been so successful. The idea of a shared universe *in the way that he describes* is something that has always fascinated me. The universe is a big place and there is a lot of potential there. Also, if something flops then you never have to touch it again.

The talk about music distribution is so fucking scummy tbh. The publishers getting the bulk of the money while screaming at the top of their lungs about "pirates hurting the industry and artists" while their singers and bands tour around the place like circus bears with a clown hat and bowtie just to make some money. Worse is when artists actually believes that propaganda and regurgitate that bullshit to their fans, alienating them.

People can work their whole life not understanding how the tax system works in their respective countries all over the world cause they have been conditioned to not care about boring stuff. Schools, tv and now smartphones with the mindfucing triggers do wonders for the greedy fucking ceos and politicans. Ignorance is not bliss, it is fucking horror.

It was just a blip in the conversation but I finally got an answer to why Papa Gundam doesn't release his music. I didn't know he was still arguing with producers about the rights. This was the first time I've heard him say anything about that.

The Resident Evil series is like someone tried to make a gourmet cheese, but instead cut holes in American Cheese and called it Gruyere. Resident Evil was always slightly cheesy, and that is apart of its charm, with this show it failed on an epic scale. I got burnt out with the The Boys at the last episode of season 3, it is overstaying its welcome and is just repeating the same beats of previous seasons over and over again.
