Open D Slide Guitar for Beginners

I’ve noticed that when I work on slide, my family always seems to have to go out and run errands. Seriously though, great lesson as always, and I’ll enjoy working on the material.

Great lesson on slide in open D, actually the messier the better with slide, it is raw and raunchy and supposed to be like that. That is what is so good about the open tunings, it is hard to mess it up. Thanks for the lesson.

You shocked me with such inexpensive equipment. I love slide but it's so hard to sound clean. In 1970 when I saw The Alman Brothers at Sunset Series on the Boston Common I noticed Duane played with a glass pill bottle on his fingers. I was against the stage so it was very clear to me how he played. I appreciate the lesson...however after 50 years and still struggling 😪...the beat goes on! Thanks Ray 👍🏻

For not being a slide player I’d say that sounded pretty freakin badass! Definitely inspired me to break out this little mini Dean acoustic I’ve got and give it a try again ! That beginning jam you played was totally killer! Thanks!

Long time subscriber who likes your laid back teaching style. Great to see you have some beginner slide lessons, and good suggestion about keeping a git in slide tuning. I'm an all round beginner (too many starts & stops) who would prefer not to raise the action of a rather nice git I have that I would dedicate to slide. Would the low action be a handicap?

Thanks for the kind feedback! It’s not necessary to raise the action for a slide, just put heavier gauge strings on at least your top two. That’s all I did on this guitar. Go at least .015 for the high E.
