We hike through a wild winter landscape to a beautiful spot in the forests of southern Germany. From natural materials, a simple hardware store tarp and a BASHA we build a wind and rain-proof teepee shelter with an open fire place inside. We process spruce wood and cook sausages and sauerkraut in a dutch oven over the cracking fire, protected from the heavy rain outside. We process more spruce wood after the rain has stopped for a short while and prepare Dinner: One pound of Rib-Eye over fresh vegetables in the dutch oven. We fall asleep in the light of a candle and wake up to a beautiful morning. After a hot spruce tea we break camp, clean the site and leave the beautiful site.

I learned lashing poles in scouts.... Was fun to see the finished work holding up and not having to carry poles in or out. Sausage and sauerkraut is one of my favorite meals. As usual a great video with leave no trace departure.... Wonderful scenery too.... Thank you....

It just occurred to me that your sausages and sauerkraut is the German equivalent to the franks and beans we have here in the US 🤣 Such a quick, easy and perfect camp food! I'll have to try making sausages and sauerkraut at home to see if Joe would eat it on one of our camps.

Thanks buddy, I used a 3mx4m tarp and a basha from the british military. I can recommend to try it out with the tarps you have. You can play around with the length of the poles and how far apart you place them. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻

The area you set up camp had quite a few trees downed by weather. Were you at all concerned about "widowmakers"?

Chalk up another great video! I have to admit, after seeing the sausage and sauerkraut being cooked up, after the vid I had to go down to the local market and pick up the same for dinner that evening. I have one question if I may, during your many trips through the forest, in different locations, have you ever come across any artifacts of days gone by? Not any specific time period, but any type of structure or items people may have dropped while at one time in the same area you are in now? Thanks again for another great, very enjoyable video. 👍

Thank you Kevin! Glad I could inspire you 😉 I have seen a lot of MRE packages from the US Military here in Germany. Other than that you can find many old trenches and also towers from the Roman empire here in Germany. Cheers and thank you big time, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
