I'd like to believe that the theme lends itself to this sort of layout, as I've noticed that OF maps tend to feel more grounded (as in look like an actual place) in reality which is one way that the mod separates itself from its inspirations such as Quake, not counting the remakes of past maps such as longestyard ofc. Usually this may end up coming at the cost of gameplay but thankfully there's maps like Gump and Skate both of which have themes that are effectively a compromise between "feasible" (quotes because this is TF2 after all) and "arcadey". It may also not be a coincidence that both of these maps are my personal favorites as of now. Also TF2 has the advantage of having a sort of over the top feel to its setting so maps like backfort also feel grounded in its setting despite not being possible in real life As for Gump it's already become one of my favorites due to its emphasis on verticality, how you can strafe into tons of openings as you go down "levels", weapon placement, and its theme which greatly stands out even among already existing TF2 maps, though maybe it's a little too wacky to be my absolute favorite but it comes close

this FUCKS. just found this game again today and top scored my first 5 games! I love this because im a huge boomer shooter fan of games like quake and mixing it with the TF2 aesthetic and mechanics is awesome. I hope this game gets alot of traction it's sooooo good. Unfortunately I don't plan on doing that since the that would make the most viewed guide redundant. If you're referring to that one video by Raus, then maybe pausing or slowing down the video could help as I found the guide to be pretty straightforward. The OF website also has step by step instructions on how to install OF using svn, this is what I used when I was installing the mod (there's a few instructions in the discord too). If you get a warning about the website being "unsafe" ignore it and proceed. You can also try to refer to #troubleshooting in the OF discord. Regarding a launcher I never used it to install the mod nor do I know how to work it despite my efforts in trying to figure it out. Make sure you're using this url when installing or updating with SVN 69.195.157.243/svn/open_fortress if that doesn't work, remove the s from https

There's only EU and US servers atm (I imagine that the US servers might be slightly better for you), but seeing how OF is getting more attention as of late (and if there's enough demand) AU servers might be a possibility in the future, but don't take my word for it of course. While OF is most well known for deathmatch which is indeed inspired by Quake and other shooters, that is mostly because deathmatch was the first mode that was being worked on and thus it's the most polished and complete. According to their YT page, "Open Fortress is a sourcemod that aims primarily at fun and introduces new gamemodes to the Team Fortress 2 universe." so essentially it's a mod that allows new ways to play in the TF2 universe and is meant to be open source, hence the name. The next mode that will be worked on once DM is complete will be retromode, which will involve the TFC classes
