Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown for OL! So glad to see more content being made for this system🙌 -Dan

5th edition actually has something similar to Attribute Dice. It's an optional rule from the DMG that changes proficiency bonus for proficiency dice.

So in other words it’s a Fate Core game.

I’ve never read the Fate Core rules so I don’t know. The mechanics match up?

So I’m watching a Fate Core review. What do you mean that is a fate core game? The engine is completely different. Do you just mean its genre-neutral?
@jeffvango6754 Жыл бұрын
@@danielramsey6141 In so far that it is setting independent and has no classes. But that's where the similarities end.

Thanks Wes. Also, you may have said this (apologies if I missed it): have you had the chance to run it? Just curious how it survives first contact with the enemy. I mean players. Mostly.

this reminds me a lot of savage worlds, but with a freely available SRD, it makes it easier to convince people to play.

I don’t think Savage Worlds is simpler, but Open Legend is cool.

I have read the game, but it is not really for me. But then there is a reason I am working on my own system since nearly nothing fits my taste. Good review though!

At the time of writing this comment the Open Legend Core rulebook is sold out. Is this because I'm late to the party and it managed to be sold out again after the release of this video or did they just never restock?
@DMTalesTTRPG Жыл бұрын
It has never restocked. I am bummed by this.

That's a real shame, I would love to support this system and get some physical ownership of it at the same time
@DMTalesTTRPG Жыл бұрын
@@victorauberg2590 I know it’s being worked on, but it’s not just a reprint. The person currently in charge of the project is completely redoing the PDF (the original is…non-standard) and adding in some errata. I guess the project is taking longer than expected. You may be able to find out more on the game’s discord. And I agree, it’s a pretty wild game.

@@DMTalesTTRPG The license has a limitation that you cannot use it if your game contains Obscenity. So, if I had a scene involving a chamber pot, is that obscenity?

Thanks for the context. The chamber pot example is kinda absurd, but so are obscenity clauses so it guess it balances out.

I'd argue that it fails the open source sniff test by trying to police what kind of stories you can make games around with this system.
@DMTalesTTRPG Жыл бұрын
It is a point worth considering, yes. I’m this case you have an overlap in the source and the perceived need for branding protection.
@furtivedolus2504 Жыл бұрын
@@DMTalesTTRPG Branding protection is all fine and well, but that doesn't factor into how free/open something is. Say I want to make something like Dark Sun with this. Well, there are certain things in Dark Sun that would be QUITE iffy because of that clause.
