If you haven’t lived in the Carolinas during this cicada thing, you just wouldn’t understand… it’s a real thing. You’ll even catch carp and catfish on a topwater when they’re eating cicadas. It’s wild…

Not even gonna lie the cicada bite is fr. Ik it sounds silly but I live in Ohio and about 3 years back we had our cicadas and it was insane. Was by far the best frog/poper bite I’ve ever had. And you could run like anywhere and see bass and catfish and crappie cruising right at the surface slurping up cicadas. I can’t tell you how many bass I caught with mouthfuls of cicadas.

I saw the same thing back in the 70's during a cicada hatch . They were dropping in the water and immediately got ate.

Same thing happened to me on Wheeler but it was a late evening bite. It’s more the small fish eat them and the big bass were killing the bluegill and bream.

I just fished Murray over the weekend and fishing is kinda tough. The herring is on the tail-tail end, not happening everywhere. Bream are on the bed but the Cicadas are absolutely covering the lake, sound is overwhelming. Worm/jig bite has been a slow consistent bite away from the perfect timing on schooling bass lately. I’m thinking 20-23lbs a day top 10 and someone will always find a 30lb bag.

Lake Murray is basically one of my 2 home lakes. I have Murray & Clark's hill both equally close. I like Murray better because it's got better largemouth. If I wanna go chase monster stripers Im going to Clark's Hill. This is my 3rd spring sense I moved down here from Ohio. Fishing is much better down here & I've learned a lot but still have much more to learn about these lakes

Sorry to burst your bubble . The cicada hatch has not improved to top water bite. It's good as it usually is this time of year. I live right in-between Murray & Clark's Hill. We have a shit top of cicadas everywhere. It's all you hear outside! I have seen a even bigger cicada hatch the last summer I was in southwest Ohio before moving down here. There were a lot more cicadas then than now & there's millions. My old home lake was. Crystal clear & bass would come turn always from cicadas. Trust me I tried using them for bait, thinking I would catch ton of fish. Nope unfortunately the same results up there...
