@ Shaun Dobbie Can i be frank with you here? I have a bike with built in regen (bionx). I live at 1000M ASL in the mountains and there are steep hills all around. Don;t get me wrong. it is nice to have regen but the reality is that to get a strong regen, you will find yourself pedaling hard to go down hill. It's kind of use for exercise or in an emergency or to try to eek out some ore range over the day. However due to the inefficiencies in the controller, both charging from and discharging through the motor you really don;t get that much back. I ride often down 200M vertical then up 300M vertical then back down 300M and then up 200M back to mine. Even by pedaling downhill for 15 mins descending 300M vertical i might see one bar come back on the battery if i'm lucky but a normal bike would have taken 5 mins to get down that hill with no pedaling. lol I don't think the gain is really super noticeable it can help save on brake pads a bit. The point is that i live in the mountains and it's not that useful, it's more of a gadget that you can play with. Better off spending more time and money increasing Mah of the battery. I'm building a 20s Samsung 21700 with 40T cells 80cells in total for the next project. I'm going without BMS as i am building a balancing fast charger out of 20x 12A buck modules. I just need to make sure none of the cells go below 2.5V under load. Having no BMS will save power, heat build up and weight. I have killed quite a few batteries so i would not recommend it without strict cell monitoring. Also, i broke my hip using regen. I was slaloming down a steep hill with some potholes, i forgot the regen was on and a pothole lifted the rear wheel enough for the regen to lock up the rear wheel, i was in a steep slalom turn and the back of the bike just slid out as if i had been pressing on the rear break in a turn. I slid down the road and my leg crashed into the potholes snapping the ball off of the top of my femur bone.

Shit, that's a pretty serious injury. I really like the regen because it saves brake wear and gives a more dynamic experience. The energy recovery isn't the main reason for me.

#1 reason you dont use a latching switch. u know you sound really smart to make such a boneheaded mistake. i hope you are alright but dont blame regen for your own stupidity, but please be more careful when using ebikes.

i got one of these kt compatible foc controller .. 36v and only works with g51 screen .... it doesnt work with scooter motors ... only geard motors of ev bikes ... can i reprogram it to make it work with scooter motors?

They do a bluetooth version now, you get an app that can control all parameters.

I’m not sure I’m following what you’ve done there 🤔 did you get a bike controller and modified it some to have regen braking? Also wish these were the videos KZbin would bring to the top of search lol. Seems technical and underground. Hard to find if you’re looking for it.

Is your smaller controller sensor-less or is it also connected to the hall sensors? I was looking at the controllers in your link and you said not to select a dual mode controller, i thought the only difference was that they can run with or without hall sensors.

Just on complete interest on your question on the resistor does that controller use shunts for current limiting? Because I actually wonder with ebikes getting popular and a lot of people modding and breaking controllers and sending them back on line,if they use a transistor instead of a shunt?? Cool vid👍

They nearly all use current shunts but some may use hall current sensors

I only charge my battery to 4.09v per cell so there is always space for regen energy. I set the overvoltage in vesc to 4.2v per cell. Hope that helps.

Most garages won't know what an electric motorcycle is. Best bet is replacing the controller.
