The old Jeff Newman tuning chart had the F on the E to F change tuned 31 cents flat.

Remember "compensators?" I guess the idea here was that you would pull some notes back into tune AFTER you had mistuned them in order to "sound good" in open E!!!!!!

There are more than one type compensator. .... tuning compensator, rerurn compensators.... each serve a purpose and have nothing to do with tuning open E out of tune, but rather are necessary many times due to the nature of the pedal steel. Equal temperament btw sounds horrible to my ears and the ears of many great pedal steel players.

@@cincinnatipedalsteel4347 I'm talking about the 'compensators' that were/are used to correct for just-temperament, not ones that may be used to correct for cabinet-drop or strings that don't return to pitch properly ("string hysteresis"). You may remember one of the "great players" who confessed his struggles with tuning issues until he finally switched to equal temperament: Buddy Emmons.www.buddyemmons.com/_board/00000406.htm

Good info but kill the effects please. Maybe just some reverb but the delay is overwhelming.
