It took me a couple years of watching videos to come across the greatest teacher who has ever uploaded to KZbin. James, you're amazing. I can't get enough of these tutorials. I appreciate this more intuitive approach to playing and explaining rather than all the technical stuff that most other teachers get into.

As a metalhead, I'm equal parts surprised and disappointed that the pedal steel guitar isn't used in metal.

I think that it would have fit with old school Hardcore.

Check out a band called Insect Ark - they play a sort of "ambient doom" metal, mostly just bass and drums, but they also use lap steel a lot, too.

Devildriver did a country cover album that they use one in quite a bit and Hank 3 definitely does too

Thanks for posting this. You may interest a whole group of young players. I'm old school steel but have dipped into blues and old rock with my steel as needed. Cool stuff.

Great stuff, I have to try that harmonic conversion thing. Yeah I've found that I need to keep it simple which isn't simple sometimes because you need to leave the thirds and sixes out and getting the fingers to know which strings to avoid with different pedal combinations is a mind field. A good exercise to find the power chords (1s and 5s) with in each pedal combo.

Great video……started on steel many years ago playing southern rock, wish this was available then, would have made me a tremendous player, have been thinking of fusing steel with bagpipes, tuning problems?

Man I grew up on old country liked the steel guitar but didnt really love it till I heard blues music. I heard devil in disguise the part where the steel guitar is played was crazy to me I never listened to blues at the time later that's what made me love the blues along with the blues instrumentation like how versatile the pedal steel guitar is. I know the ft flying burrito brother weren't blues I worded my comment weirdly first heard devil in disguise then fell into listening to blues and blues rock later on.
