Really informative review of a game with a difference. I have a few book games and really struggle with them, hoping Tally Ho and this one get released as a Folio or box game. Many thanks.

Thank you for the video, very detailed indeed. I like this type of games where the zoom is in these small and forgotten operations that were very important to maintain the resistance and the hope of the people of the occupied countries, aplausos.

That's exactly right -- as well, the SOE and SIS agents did a lot of damage in sabotage, assassinations, and other paramilitary operations. They were very brave -- their life expectancy wasn't very long, but they caused the Germans no end of trouble.

Thank you, Rough, for a simply great and very detailed look through the book! The game is easy to learn, quick to play, but wickedly challenging -- and that's in line with history. During the period depicted in the game, "A" Flight of RAF 161 Squadron suffered no fewer than 99 accidents and incidents -- and throughout that time, they rarely had more than six or seven pilots flying! For those who find the game too challenging, I recommend you simply give yourself a few extra Skill Chits at the start until you learn the ropes. While this is technically a wargame, the real object of "A" Flight pilots was not to engage with the enemy but to avoid detection, circumvent risky areas, and know when to push on and when to turn back to base. In short, the game teaches you to think like a pilot -- you don't take chances with your life....

This looks really cool.

This is different and cool. I'd probably have to read the rules to get a sense of gameplay. Does it compare to any other games mechanically?

Hi Michael, Thomas's book games I think are unique in that the research done is incredible! There are, of course similarities with other solitaire games; such as Tables to roll on and a pretty static sequence of play - however, unlike some solitaire games, there are lots of decisions to be made.

Michael, an excellent example of a play-through is available from Greg Amos at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXaQhmmPqKx-l7c

Looks pretty daunting ..... may be too much for me. The history would be cool to read. I'd like to see after action or play through form someone..... maybe that would help.

Working on exactly that right now! Hopefully it will be out next week!

I linked to this above, but here is a first-class play-through video from Greg Amos -- he demonstrates the kind of decision-making you need to make in this game. It teaches you to think like a real pilot and not just move ahead and roll dice, hoping for the best. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXaQhmmPqKx-l7c
