on the GBA version I unlocked the secret door behind the church without triggering the "carter's secret" event they changed it on SOS FOMT lol this is really helpful, I wanted to cook for Ann ;)

Yeah, Glad to help! Yes, you can only trigger this scene on certain time... But you can still unlock the door without it
