Upgrading from rail to monorail: 1) send trains to depot 2) upgrade all rail until you're left with the one depot with all your trains in 3) build a new monorail depot 4) make ONE monorail train to match your route 5) open the order window and click goto 6) hold control and click on one of your old trains 7) you now have a monorail train sharing your train orders 8) control-clone the monorail train as many times as you need 9) send out your monorail trains and dump your old trains

8:10 but its kind of sensible though.. Because think about it as if you were the Steel Mill owner. You wouldnt pay very much to have iron shipped from just over the hill, compared to from the other side of the world. You'd just say "pff 10k per trip just for a one hour drive, forget it!". But if the ONLY supply was far away, the transport company would simply force you to pay the high price, due to infrastructure and upkeep / fuel costs of such a long journey. The reason why its more fair in real life (usually) is because there are endless competitor companies, if you do the monopoly extortion on the distant only iron ore supply, another company WILL come and link up the closer one, for a much cheaper price (but less profit), and the steel mill will choose the cheaper supplier instead. Real life (apart from monopolies) works by capitalism, if your supply is overpriced, another cheaper one will replace you. But in this game, if you dont have competitors for the same industry, its a state economy where you are the dictator. In this game though, you dont have any other competitors (unless you use AI or your multiplayer buddies DONT respect "your" routes). So thats why you can go totally nazi on the industries and extort them for insane distance-based prices. But if they didnt have that algorithm, then no long distance routes would ever be worth building, and the game would just devolve into a boring truck-short-route daisy chain. You NEED that distance-value increase to make up for maintenance, infrastructure and fuel costs.

1:43:00 you could simply buy a monorail train, then click "Go To" and click on the old normal trains, that will copy their orders, same as you always did before with every other train, boat or truck. Aint difficult =) 2:28:20 also if someone has the same problem Rythian has with his graphics/UI, you can fix that by right clicking your OpenTDD.exe and checking "Disable scaling at high DPI". AND to fix the FONTS, open openttd.cfg in your my documents/openttd folder, change SmallFont, MediumFont and LargeFont to Tahoma or Tahoma Bold for example, and small/medium/large Size to whatever is suitable such as 8, 16, 24 depending on your resolution. No more pixelated blurry fonts.

It sorts your trains so you dont have to go through a giant list of trains to find out which ones you need to fix.

Reason why HOTS works IMO: anyone can pick it up, games are generally shorter. used to play LoL and Dota, now I only play HotS as my MOBA drug, cause of the less commitment
