@@tonyh1345 Those claims of the bad actors making bad things is that it lacks holistic consistency. Why would it only be used by bad actors? There are far more good actors in the world, and if everyone has access to it, the good actors will use the same tech to counter the bad actors. Of course there will be risks, just like any new tech. The thing is though, the only way to get to a high tech sci fi world where we live in abundance and solve the mysteries of the universe, is to embrace tech. You're never going to get to Star Trek without AI and robotics, at least not before the heat death of the universe or the existence of humanity, if you don't accelerate using tech. Want to solve climate change? Use the tech. Want to cure cancer? Use the tech. Look up all of the big breakthroughs that AI is making in other sectors like protein folding, climate science, education, etc. Don't just focus on fictional cyberpunk existence narrative driven media, and look at real-world progress too, besides just deep fakes.

@@ZenTheMC I think what's missing in your initial question "why would it only be used by bad actors?" is that it doesn't even really get to the point. It isn't that it would be used ONLY by bad actors. The point is bad actors can use destructive potential in a way that can't be matched with constructive potential by good actors. It takes a second to level a city, but years to rebuild it. Even with AI behind the wheel. That's just the science of bringing order to chaos. It always takes longer than bringing chaos to order, no matter how much you speed up the process.
@ZenTheMC
@ZenTheMC 17 күн бұрын
@@MysteryStew5977 defense is easier than offense from first principles, game theory, and energy efficiency. I think the good actors will be actively using the same tech, like cyber security, biological “upgrades”, etc. If not, they should be, since proactive measures will need to be taken for countering. Bad actors can absolutely do a lot of damage, but we should have security measures already in place to anticipate that damage. I know you mentioned the science of bringing order to chaos, and how the destruction would be faster and harder to counter with construction. I don’t know if that’s true in practice, because of the reasons I mentioned before about defense being easier than offense. For the most part, game theory for nations has also adhered to defense over offense when it comes to other nations with similar power, and the defenders usually win out long term from efficiency(energy, resources, etc). The only time offense is more optimal is if you’re much stronger and can completely annihilate the defenders, without letting it drag on. If both bad and good actors have the same tech, and the good actors are being proactive and anticipating bad actors, then there’s an equal level of power via the tech, but more good guys, so even more favorable. Can the bad guys level a city that might take longer to rebuild? Sure, but only if there is no defense. If there is defense with the same tech, by more people, the attack would not succeed.

"We're not against AI tech, we just want them to stop making it until they prove the tech they haven't made is safe first." Um... how? Name a single other industry where you can somehow do safety testing *before* you've made the product first? Drug safety trials can only occur *after* the drug is made; care safety tests can only occur *after* the car is built; and AI alignment tests can only fully be done *after* the model is trained. OpenAI, the company you're protesting outside of, have dedicated teams of alignment researchers who are, in fact, researching ways to try and mitigate harms AI may present. But the true and full safety testing can't be done without making the new models first. You can't pause creation and then test the creations you haven't made yet.

@@ADAWorld-ri8nc "We're talking about potential extinction here." No, we're not; you watch too many sci-fi movies. We're talking about, at worst, an AI that helps people do terrible things that they'd already be trying to do. Besides, they're not stopping alignment research. Many of the current team quit, but they will be replaced and the alignment research will continue. This is not a situation of "now there's no one stopping the murder bots from murdering everyone!" This is just "now these particular people will no longer be the ones guiding the bots away from doing questionable things".
