OB, you I know I love your videos. I think what you are doing is insanely great. With that being said I don't think any private collector has opened nearly close to the value that you have opened here. The product you have open has to range close to upper 6 to the lower 7 figures. As a fan of yours what I want most is for you to feel fulfilled as a person. If that is opening all the boosters awesome. If that is completing your set of 9+ beta that is also awesome. To be honest. I personally love just going back in time for a few moments in my day to my childhood. Where it was my friends sitting down on a rainy day and busting some cards out. That is why opening boosters IS priceless. I am really happy you pulled that lotus. I would have been happy if it was another deathlace too. Idk man. In the end no matter what you decide you will always have my support behind you. I am sure I am not the only fan that feels that way either.

The big consideration I’d say is think about the historic aspect of opening this booster box. To think that there will never be another full beta box opening, and it’s a pretty amazing thing to document the best Beta Box

You are a very generous and wise man to talk with your audience and will be happy with whatever you do. And considering how the centering in a good number of cards were getting 7.5's maybe the rest wouldn't be much better so the cards graded wouldn't be home run 9.5's. I suppose selling the packs would be good to get the capital you want for other cards :) But the idea that you would have a full BETA BOX with all cards graded from BGS in a documented collection is somewhat PRICELESS. All pristine condition, pulled by the man himself, profiling the luckiest and most historic unboxing in the history of MTG. All that said. I'm leaning that you sell them 80/20.

Having Tavis map the box had both a positive and a negative effect on your situation. The negative effect is that since the lotus has been opened the excitment of opening the other packs is kind of lost. The positive effect is that now you know the remaing packs are worth more as sealed product than they would be if you opened the cards. You've already suffered the negative effect of mapping the box, take advantage of the positive effect by selling the reamining packs.

See if PSA would slab the packs with a disclosure that Lotus was pulled from box. Also, mix the 21 "dead" box with the full box and there is still a chance at a lotus, but less a chance.

It's almost like a collector without a purpose being forced to open 56 packs of lotto tickets with the winner removed where people are willing to pay 5k+ for each lotto ticket. Its not just that people are willing to pay 5k. People are willing to add the graded pack to their collections. Cherish and hold on to them. I don't think anyone wants the Lotus sitting in a graded booster pack that won't ever be opened.

2 things to think about: 1. You're hesitating to open them. Which means you should sell them, however I think if you sell them you should note that the 21 packs come from a booster box that is partially opened and then state which Power Nine you've already drawn from the box. So that people know, because they obviously do not carry same value anymore and being dishonest will bring you ire. 2. Remember that time you opened a starter deck thing and the entire uncommon section was replaced with just a butt-ton of rares? I contest that you underestimate how many times misprints and fuck-ups happen at this old stage of MTG. I contest that you can't even be sure that there isn't ANOTHER Black lotus in that box.

Late to the game but I would suggest you get the packs graded and offer them for sale to Patreons, etc. The "chase" is over for that box, lets be honest. Giving collectors a chance to add a graded Beta Booster to their collection would be higher ground to stand on. And you can take some of the earnings and apply them to another box of vintage MTG where a new "chase" could commence. If I could afford a booster, I'd definitely fight my way to the top of the list to get my hands on a booster, regardless of Island rare chance :) Really it boils down to what you feel more comfortable doing. No matter what you choose, I'll be happy because there will be other openings :) We've been more than lucky to have you open all these Lotus' with the exception of the Unlimited which will no doubt happen soon because you're Openbooster and the luckiest man on the planet!!! I would really wait on the other box. That I would keep. KZbin doesn't pay squat unless you consistently get 150K views a video and release a video every 2 days consistently. So far the Alpha grades are great! not really surprised on the Sinkhole though and the same with the commons that followed, it's shifted real bad lol. Ooooh perfect start to the 9.5s! I am here to say now that whichever decision you make will be the right one for the channel - 21 more months of Beta pack goodness even though we now the Lotus is out of play, or selling them so that you can invest in much more product for years of continued opening goodness! To me the choice is simple. You have 21 packs left and the money in selling those packs is huge and ridiculous to pass up. BUT, who wants to sell an odd number of packs? So I propose that you randomly select 1 more pack... 1 pack to rule them all if you will. Keep that pack for a very special video and sell the remaining 20. As for the other box, that is completely up to you but I'd love to see you open it. :)

I would not really say they have less value, since while yes the lotus is no longer in there, there is 2 moxen guaranteed, and judging by how the other cards graded they are pretty much guaranteed a 9, with a little luck even a 9.5. Think what that alone is. Usually if you crack beta you have no guarantee to hit even 1 piece of power, and you can guarantee 2 moxen and a dual land. Plus is there not still a chance for an underground sea as well ? On top of that come all the other guaranteed goodies, in pack fresh condition. Plus the chance to get cards like sol ring, demonic tutor, serra angel, swords to plowshares, heck even lightining bolts, dark rituals, Llanowar elves etc. in near perfect condition. Those are hard cards to get packfresh, since people already at the time of revised where careful with the good rares, but nobody cared about the commons, let alone the lands. I just checked ebay and there several 9.5 mountains that sold well above 100, some even sold for 150. Judging by how the other cards came out, a 9 is practically guaranteed for the commons and lands, quite a few will be 9.5, and maybe you even find a few lands of commons that are a 10 I know you sold a complete common set of beta like 2 years ago, think what that alone was worth, and with 21 packs you have a good chance to get a full set of commons, or at least have some several times so you could swap with other collectors. 21 packs are 231 commons/lands, you might be able to make 2 sets if you find people to swap with, and have quite a few left, plus I am sure since you sold that set in 2017 the prices have grown quite a bit since old school is getting more and more popular and people want to bling out their old school decks with beta. As for selling them, I would try to find someone that takes em all, so he is guaranteed 2 pieces of power etc.etc.

What do patreons get for signing up? I suggest looking at your finances. If you have a ton of cash why sell the other box, you would just have cash. You should keep the beta box sealed like your Arabian nights box. You could just sell the graded cards and randomly give the commons and uncommons to your patreons each month. You should really factor in the future value of the rest of the guaranteed power 9. I suppose if you take the money from the sealed packs and just buy the same power 9 you expect to get, at a 9+grade, that might make sense from an investment standpoint as limiting your downside... Really need to consider that if the historical value of these cards continues its sustainable growth rate, hanging on to those power 9 have a higher net present value than selling and buying newer formats with very limited growth rate.

Imo, in all seriousness, sell or keep the remaining 21 booster packs in this box PSA graded 9/10 (despite the ridiculous processing times) and start opening and mapping out the other Beta Booster box that you have already opened up a pack in. It'll be a new quest (video series) for the 2nd potential Black Lotus!!! (and whatever other cards you want). It'll be a wild ride of a collaboration with Tavis and Edwin as well :) THEN if you've opened enough packs to map out what you'd be likely to get (and they're not the cards you personally want for playing/collecting). THEN, sell the rest of the unsealed packs PSA graded 9/10 OR keep them SEALED. They're your (and your wife/family's) boosters and ultimately you should do whatever is best for you and your family here e.g. if your kids start showing interest in it, if i were in your shoes, i'd be keen to keep them as a heirloom so to speak. I also think you have a very interesting story to tell about your grading cards, packs etc., so i don't think you'll have any issue with new material for your KZbin channel :) How this current story with the Beta booster box is playing out and you doing videos talking about your thought processes etc is great! You come across and i believe you to also be a very fair, kind hearted person e.g. you're not looking to make the most money that you can by whatever means. I think audiences are looking for a genuinely good person e.g. The Professor.

What is the possibility of getting a chunk of a sheet anywhere near as good as this box in the other box? We do have a couple dual lands and a moxen left, correct? Is there a possibility that the other box could be worse than what is left in this one? Those are my biggest questions in considering selling the rest of this box. Also it is a very historic box! So either way, if you sell or open I think you'll make a lot of people (or at least 21) very happy lol Personally I believe the historic nature of this box warrants opening despite the dollar value, although, 36 packs vs 21 is very tantalizing! Mapping a new box actually sounds really fun!

Going to be honest; Am only watching ABU and AN openings now. Even LGS and AQ are a little meh for me atm. Ok... do this. I think MOST people would be into this idea. Put all 21 backs up on Ebay. But before you do... make a video where you use a pen to number each pack as you take them out of the box. Then scribble some quick art on each pack on video (so people can verify each pack). In the Ebay auction... list that EACH OF THOSE PACKS WILL BE OPENED ON THE CHANNEL, THEN YOU WILL MAIL ALL THE CARDS TO THE WINNER. Everybody wins here... - They all sell for what ever they sell for. That was market price. If some people DO want those historic packs badly, they can bid higher! - You get the money/value out of those packs. - Everybody on the internet DOES get to see the packs get opened in videos... the historic moment is maintained. - All of us lowly non-OB folk have our chance to grab a piece of history and own the cards opened from the historic box on the channel. You could even throw in a signed Open Boosters play mat with each pack as you mail them." BAM!!

You mentioned in the video that you'd have to go back to 1993 to make a profit on opening the packs..... BUT the thing is, unless I am mistaken, you bought these packs IN 1993, and paid 1993 dollars, so you haven't lost any money upon opening any of these boosters. Meaning: at least you haven't lost any money you have spent, because sure every booster pack you open will easilly have more than $3.00 in card value. Yes, you stand to lose money that you could make by selling the unopened packs, but that's just money that you COULD make, NOT lost... Anyways, I'm rambling like an old man... Open them all! I would've, had I had a chance to buy these packs back then... :-D
